BIJF Kicks Off Election Process for 2024-26 Executive Committee
The train has departed for the election of the 2024-26 Executive Committee of the Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF), the national organization for science, technology, and telecom journalists. Following its first meeting, the draft voter list and election schedule were released. The final voter list will be published on November 20. The Appeals Board for this election includes BIJF members Hasan Bipul, Tech Editor at BDNews24.com, and Obaidullah Badol, Special Correspondent at Kaler Kantho. The final results will be published on December 23.

Bangladesh forms 5 new commissions to drive state reforms
The interim government has formed five new committees to oversee state reforms on the media, labour, women’s affairs, health and local government. Each committee will have a student representative, but the student nominees for the labour and local government reform commissions have yet to be announced. National Professor AK Azad Khan will be the head of the Health Affairs Reform Commission, journalist Kamal Ahmed will lead the Media Reform Commission, Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmmed will head the Labour Rights Affairs Reform Commission, Shireen Huq will lead the Women’s Affairs Reform Commission and Tofael Ahmed will head the Local Government Reform Commission. On Sept 11, Yunus addressed the nation and announced the names of six commission heads to lead state reform programmes. On Oct 17, Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced the government's decision to form a reform commission on four other issues, including health and media.

End Overdose Cornell Chapter Aims to Reduce Overdose Deaths Through Education, Advocacy
Last fall, he established Cornell’s chapter of End Overdose — a nationwide non-profit organization working to reduce overdose deaths through medical intervention and public education. “End Overdose’s purpose is to end overdose in our community through education, awareness and equipping individuals with the proper tools and knowledge to respond to an overdose in the event of one,” Ourvan said. Garret Sisler ’28 was also inspired to join the club, having prior experience in opioid prevention. “Finding End Overdose was a continuation of that,” Sisler said. Bankers have 27 holidays in 2025
Employees of banks and financial institutions will enjoy a total of 27 holidays in 2025, according to the holiday schedule finalised by the Bangladesh Bank, reports bdnews24.com. Another six-day holiday is set for Eid-ul-Azha from June 05 to 10, with two days overlapping with weekly holidays. Additional holidays include the Bank Holiday on July 01, Ashura on July 06, Janmashtami on August 16 and Eid-e-Miladunnabi on September 05. Holidays for Shab-e-Barat, Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, Buddha Purnima, Eid-ul-Azha, Ashura and Eid-e-Miladunnabi will depend on moon sightings. The holiday calendar for 2025 also includes holidays on certain Sundays and Thursdays, potentially extending weekends and providing longer breaks for bank employees.

WNBA corporate sponsorship deals are growing, but not every athlete is getting their due
Last month, it wrapped up a historic season that notched all-time viewership and attendance records while racking up brand deals and corporate sponsorships for its players along the way. Players of different backgrounds landed a variety of other endorsement deals with companies like CarMax and State Farm. The WNBA recently partnered with Kim Kardashian’s underwear brand SKIMS, which featured women of color as well as LGBTQ+ players in its ads. Risa Isard, assistant professor of sport management at the University of Connecticut, analyzed online articles from ESPN, CBS Sports and Sports Illustrated from the 2020 WNBA season and her peer-reviewed study found that Black WNBA athletes received less media attention than white WNBA athletes. “I am having quite a bit of success now that I didn’t have then," she said, which makes her hopeful that sponsorship opportunities for Black LGBTQ+ female athletes also will continue to grow.
