Food pushes India's retail inflation to nine-month high in September
REUTERSIndia's retail inflation in September accelerated to its highest in nine months, due to higher food prices, according to government data released on Monday. Annual retail inflation was at 5.49% in September, higher than 3.65% in August, and economists' forecast of 5.04%. The print was the highest since December 2023, when retail inflation was at 5.69%. The chart shows India inflation growth was at 9-month high of 5.49% on yearly basis in September 2024. Vegetable prices rose 36% year-on-year in September against a 10.71% increase in August.

Indian visa crisis spells huge trouble for Bangladeshi patients needing urgent care

A panel reviewing the age limits for public sector jobs has recommended raising the eligibility threshold to 35 years for men and 37 years for women, reports bdnews24.com. Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, chief of the Public Administration Reform Commission and head of the review committee, addressed the issue on Monday. "The government will now make a decision on the age limits. The recommended age limit for women has been set at 37 to provide them with greater opportunities, aligning with practices in neighbouring countries. BGB seizes Indian goods over TK 3.45 cr
DHAKA, Oct 14, 2024 (BSS)- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today seized Indian goods, including clothes and Jira worth about Taka 3.45 crore from Lalmonirhat and Mymensingh frontiers. The BGB personnel seized 1,466 pieces of Indian sarees, 1,000 pieces of pants and 1,479 pieces of Punjabis worth about Tk three crore from a covered cargo van at Teesta Toll Plaza in Lalmonirhat district, a BGB press release said. The BGB troops followed the covered van (Dhaka Metro-T-14-2266) of Karatoa Courier Service from Nageshwari Upazila of Kurigram district which was carrying Indian illegal smuggled goods to Dhaka last night, it said. Later, the BGB patrol team intercepted the car when it reached Teesta Toll Plaza. In another drive at Dhobaura border areas, the BGB members seized 2130 kgs of Indian Jira worth about Taka 25.56 lakh.

Former agriculture minister Abdur Razzaque has been arrested following the detention of Awami League MPs and ministers after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. The influential Awami League leader was placed under arrest in Dhaka’s Eskaton area, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, or DMP, said in a statement on Monday. Earlier on Aug 19, a murder case was filed against 56 people, including Razzaque and former state minister for commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu. On the day of the Awami League government’s collapse in the mass uprising, a school student named Maruf Mia was killed in a march on Aug 5. Razzaque was elected with the Awami League ticket from the Tangail-1 seat in the 2001, 2008, 2014, and 2018 elections.
