At least five missing after bridge collapse in southwest ChinaBEIJING, Aug 3, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - A landslide in southwest China caused a highway bridge to collapse, leaving at least five people missing, authorities said Saturday. China has seen a string of natural disasters this summer, many linked to extreme weather. State media reported Friday that the death toll from another highway bridge collapse in northern Shaanxi province last month had risen from 12 to 38, with 24 still missing. In May, a highway in southern China collapsed after days of rain, leaving 48 dead. China is the world's largest emitter of the greenhouse gases that scientists say drive climate change and make extreme weather more intense.

Pastor Lowell Thompson rests with the angels now.
Pastor Thompson helped me spiritually many times in my life. Pastor Thompson came to Saints Stephen and James Evangelical Lutheran Church at Hanover and Hamburg Streets from Gettysburg Seminary in 1962 and served as its only pastor. Pastor Thompson enjoyed fishing. Pastor Thompson officiated at my wedding. I always felt the presence of God whenever I was with Pastor Thompson and I am saddened by his death.

Mother, son among 3 killed in Noakhali road accident
NOAKHALI, Aug 3, 2024 (BSS) - At least three people, including a woman and her son, were killed in a road accident on the Begumganj-Feni regional highway in Dokan Ghor area of ? ?Durgapur union under Begumganj upazila of the district. The deceased were identified as CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Jasim Uddin, 55, his mother Tahera Begum ,75, and his cousin Salimulla's wife Kohinur Begum, 45, residents of Chadu Bepari Bari in Durgapur union under Begumganj upazila of the district. The accident occurred in the area when a passenger bus of Star Line was going to Lakshmipur from Feni. Police seized the bus and CNG-run auto rickshaw.

Millions of customers may be affected by Ticketmaster breach
Ticketmaster is notifying millions of customers about a data breach that could be one of the largest in North American history. Ticketmaster said on its website that “customers can continue to conduct business with Ticketmaster as normal and without issue.”“Our comprehensive investigation — alongside leading cybersecurity experts and relevant authorities — has shown that there has been no more unauthorized activity. According to the notice to customers, data began being accessed on April 2 and continued until May 18. “We have not seen any additional unauthorized activity n the cloud database since we began our investigation,” according to the notice. “They should also change their password on any other account where they’ve used the same or similar password to the one on their AT&T account, a practice that should be followed during any data breach.

Quota protest: Injured youth dies in Dhaka hospital
Emon was a staff member at a restaurant in the Vatara area in Dhaka’s Notun Bazar. He was shot in the middle of a clash while heading to work from home on Jul 19. The youth passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital’s Ward 101 at 3:15am on Saturday. The body of Emon has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy, said Bachchu Mia, officer-in-charge of the DMCH police outpost. Emon used to live with his elder sister Tahmina in Notun Bazar.

Asif Mahmud, one of the coordinators of the group, said: “It is fake. Do not be misled.”He confirmed the matter to a WhatsApp group for journalists around 11:30am on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com. A post including a statement calling for a seven-day withdrawal of the movement was making the rounds on social media on Saturday morning. The false statement was signed with the names of six protest coordinators – Md Nahid Islam, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Abu Baker Majumder, Asif Mahmud, and Nusrat Tabassum.

Take a survey, solve a problem – Brandon Sun
On weekdays, I do most of my miles on the track at Brandon University’s Healthy Living Centre. Some of them were in the core area, but the majority were in the area around the Keystone Centre. They accuse me, and anybody else who sees this stuff happening, of exaggerating the problem. I completed the survey a couple of days ago and it took me about 30 minutes. That happens when too many citizens don’t speak up and participate in the consultation process, of which the survey is an important part.

Two more die during protest rally in Khulna, Habiganj
They paraded through the rain, crossed Rampura Bridge, through the BRAC University area, and reached East-West University. Additional police personnel were deployed in the Uttara area since the morning surrounding the student rally. KHULNAA police constable was killed and around 30 other policemen injured in a clash with protesters in Khulna. He was rushed to Khulna City Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, according to Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mozammel Haque. As police attempted to disperse the crowd, the students marched towards Khulna University and threw brickbats at Sonadanga Police Station.
