Planning Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud on Wednesday said the foremost challenge for the next government will be rebuilding human capital and strengthening governance, alongside preserving fragile macroeconomic stability following years of structural decline and a series of economic shocks. Dr Wahiduddin said Bangladesh has experienced a prolonged deterioration in human resource development which is now clearly reflected in weak administrative capacity and poor governance outcomes. Dr Wahiduddin argued that many of these costs stem indirectly from extensive capital flight and financial mismanagement in previous years. Foreign exchange reserves have stabilised and are gradually rising, prompting Bangladesh Bank to resume limited dollar purchases, he added. Dr Wahiduddin said point-to-point inflation has declined from around 11% to close to 8%, but warned that inflation expectations remain entrenched.

Santos struck after 91 minutes with a shot and Leon with a header three minutes later against fifth-placed Sekhukhune in northern city Polokwane to earn Sundowns a ninth league win this season. "Our subs were fantastic," said Sundowns' Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso as the winners of the last eight Premiership title races moved to 32 points from 15 matches. Sekhukhune coach and 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning midfielder Eric Tinkler said the quality of Sundowns' bench made the difference. Only the brilliance of Sekhukhune goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner kept Sundowns goalless for so long. Sundowns were captained by 40-year-old goalkeeper Denis Onyango, who played for Uganda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
