Breakdown forced second plane to bring PM home from vacation
It was the second time in nearly four months that a breakdown prompted the Royal Canadian Air Force to dispatch rescue aircraft to bring home Canada’s prime minister from an overseas visit. The RCAF Challenger that arrived earlier today in Jamaica was *not* the PM’s ride home from his Christmas vacation. “A maintenance team and aircraft were then dispatched and returned the aircraft to serviceability on January 3,” she said. Shortly after noon on Friday, RCAF Challenger 144619 departed Ottawa International Airport, ferrying a repair party to Jamaica. The villa the prime minister stayed in normally rents for $9,300 a night.

Climate Change is clearly the world’s most serious developing problem that is already affecting the cost and quality of life everywhere. Pierre Poilievre has shown no credible ideas to move in sync with the world on climate change issues. Polls can change in the 22 months before the mandatory 2025 election, and the Conservatives have put themselves in a tough spot. Moderate Conservatives don’t trust Poilievre but out of some deep-rooted sense of loyalty cannot bring themselves to vote for Trudeau. They rationalize their position by saying they would vote Liberal if the eminently capable Mark Carney became Liberal leader.

For the second time in nearly four months, breakdowns prompted the Royal Canadian Air Force to dispatch rescue aircraft to bring home Canada’s prime minister from an overseas visit. “The first aircraft that transported the prime minister’s party became unserviceable after arrival,” Department of National Defence Spokesperson Andrée-Anne Poulin told CBC News. Shortly after noon Sunday, RCAF Challenger 144619 departed Ottawa International Airport, ferrying the repair party to Jamaica. Both planes departed Jamaica later that evening roughly 30 minutes apart, arriving safely back in Ottawa. Late last year, the RCAF took delivery of the first of a series of planes meant to replace the Polaris , the CC-330 Husky.

In a media statement, federal Health Minister Mark Holland said Canada has regulations in place to protect its drug supply. "Health Canada is actively monitoring the Canadian drug supply and continues to ensure that Canadians have access to the drugs that they need." We can't supply Florida with the drugs that they may need without doing damage in Canada." Carol Off returns to Western
The classical literature Carol Off studied at Western more than 40 years ago was on her mind while reporting from war zones, writing each of her books and during 16 years at the helm of the CBC Radio show As It Happens. “Understanding how people think and how they operate – I got that from English literature,” Off said. Her class at Western will be based on her newest book, At a Loss for Words: Why We Can’t Talk to Each Other, due to be released in fall 2024. “Read broadly, read widely, read deeply. Read with pleasure.”Much has changed since Off graduated from Western in 1981.
