CBC/Radio-Canada will assist in the mandate review in any way possible, said Leon Mar, a spokesperson for the public broadcaster. Beginning next year, the Canadian Heritage Department will put together a committee to find a new head of CBC who can lead the public broadcaster into its transformation, St-Onge said. Catherine Tait, current CEO and president of CBC/Radio-Canada, is slated to stay in her role until 2025.

St-Onge says in a year-end interview with The Canadian Press that the time is now to update CBC/Radio-Canada’s mandate, to hedge against a possible change in government. She says the Liberal government believes a strong public broadcaster strengthens democracy and is promising to keep supporting it — adding she believes a Conservative government would destroy it. The Opposition Tories, who didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, have promised to defund CBC and turn its Toronto-based headquarters into housing.

The surprising similarities — and key difference — between the Conservative and Liberal housing plans
Poilievre’s housing plan includes a GST rebate for the construction of purpose-built rental homes, just like the proposal the Liberals recently passed through the House of Commons, but with a key difference. Housing Minister Sean Fraser said he considered the Conservative approach, but found it wouldn’t do enough and would create more bureaucracy. Moffatt advised the government to build two million new rental units over the next decade, arguing that more rental units would bring down prices across the spectrum. The other similarity between the Conservative and Liberal housing plans is the focus on municipalities delaying or limiting construction, with both parties making plans to get municipalities across the country to build more homes. Fraser said he believes the Liberal policy strikes a balance by making municipalities responsible for their part of the process.

Anyone who criticizes MAID governance is seen as being opposed to assisted death and is shut out of the debate. In 2022, Canada extended its lead: MAID now represents 4.1 per cent of all deaths in Canada. In truth, Canada became world-famous for euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide because we put right-to-die advocates in charge of assisted death. Regardless of one’s stance on MAID, regulatory capture is a well-known form of corruption.
