Egypt, Germany agree on development funds and grants worth 151 million euros for 15 projects

CAIRO – 18 August 2021: Egypt and Germany agreed on allocating soft development funds worth EUR 151.5 million from the German side to finance 15 development projects across sectors of technical education, vocational training, and innovation in the private sector, migration, labor, administrative reform, urban development, and renewable energy, according to Ministry of International Cooperation. The ministry added that this comes within the framework of the joint economic relations between Egypt and Germany, which aims to support Egypt’s Vision 2030 and its endeavors to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, 24 representatives from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ); the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy; the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety; the German Federal Foreign Office; the German Embassy in Cairo; the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ); and the KfW development bank. This is in addition to the EUR 240 million debt-swap program between Germany and Egypt. During the first half of 2021, 12 development financing agreements worth EUR 197 million were signed within the framework of the joint cooperation strategy with Germany across various priority sectors; pushing towards the achievement of both the local and global development targets.

Qatari new Ambassador to Egypt arrives Cairo to resume work for 1st time in 4yrs

CAIRO – 17August 2021: The Qatari new Ambassador to Egypt, arrived Cairo on Tuesday to take over his duties after an absence of more than four years following the withdrawal of the ambassadors of Egypt and Qatar after the Arab Quartet crisis in mid-2017Ambassador Salem Mubarak Al Shafi, Qatar's new ambassador to Egypt, arrived in Cairo from Doha on Tuesday. Ambassador Hatem Al-Nashar, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Protocol Affairs, and members of the Qatari Embassy in Egypt received Al Shafi at Cairo Airport upon his arrival. The new Qatari ambassador to Egypt will present his credentials to senior Egyptian officials in the coming days in preparation for the official start of his work. Last June, Egypt and Qatar have agreed on settling all outstanding issues between the two countries during the coming stage, following the signing of "Al-Ula Declaration" on January 5, 2021, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez. During a meeting held between Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani in Doha, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive developments witnessed in the Egyptian-Qatari relations following the signing of ‘Al-Ula Declaration’, and agreed on the importance of moving forward in taking the necessary measures and procedures to build on what was achieved through operationalizing the various bilateral cooperation frameworks.
