Addis Ababa — The Ministry of Health has signed an agreement with three institutions to construct 2,000 health centers across Ethiopia five years. The Russian Pan-African PPP Development Center will cover the estimated more than 250 million USD cost to build the health centers. Health State Minister, Dr. Dereje Dugma said the project will build 2,000 health centers in five years. According to him, each of the health centers will enable 2,000 to 5,000 community members to access various medical services. Russian Pan-African PPP Development Center has more than 126 years relations in Ethiopia.

According to the proposed legislation, Investigators can simply get authorization from the office of the Attorney and can intercept communication and exchange of letters. “If the investigator body is in an emergency situation, it can get authorization from the chief of prosecutor institution in the area and collect information using the investigation,” according to the draft bill, as reported by the BBC Amharic. The source highlighted that the draft bill explained the need for increasing the fine. A relevant committee in the Ethiopian parliament is reportedly viewing details of the bill and will be presented to the parliament for approval.

African economies will grow on average by 3.8% in 2024 prior to increasing by 4% next year, according to an African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) project. Afreximbank’s African Trade and Economic Outlook Report 2024 launched today also says the continent’s economies face several downside risks. Despite the challenges, the Afreximbank says the outlook remains positive and most macroeconomic indicators are expected to improve in 2024 and 2025. AAAP is integrating climate risk assessment and digital adaptation solutions into the wheat value chain, supporting capacity building through deployment of digital climate advisory services (DCAS), and co-designing digital adaptation solutions in a wheat farmer registration system. Ethiopia halted the sale of shares of its state-owned operator Ethio Telecom to foreign companies, to prioritise domestic retail investors instead, reported Bloomberg. The government wanted to sell 45% of Ethio Telecom to foreign investors in a move to keep the operator competitive against Safaricom. Eid added that Ethiopia will push to sell a 10% stake to retail investors who are “showing appetite. But a sale to foreign investors is not off the table as the process will resume after the company lists on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange that starts operations in October. According to Bloomberg, Ethio Telecom had 74.6 million subscribers in January and reported 11 billion birr ($191.6 million) profit its H1 results.
