At least 170 'executed' in Burkina Faso attack - Authorities
At least 170 people were killed in northern Burkina Faso last week, a regional prosecutor said in a statement on Sunday. Aly Benjamin Coulibaly said attackers targeted four villages in Yatenga province before 'executing around 170 people' on February 25. Burkina Faso is battling an Islamist militant insurgency in its north and east. Armed groups - some affiliated to Al Qaeda and ISIS - regularly launch attacks on civilian and military installations. Visiting students were hosted by committee members, friends and students around the University who expressed interest in the cultural exchange for the weekend. The winning presenters were awarded with the Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong Innovation Award, named after a prominent Ghanaian entrepreneur. During the closing ceremony, Innovation Lab groups presented their resolution slideshows, which aimed to tackle the problem in their lab case studies. “But we’re leaving with tangible connections, we’re leaving with relationship-building skills and potential internships.”The inaugural Yale Africa Innovation Symposium was held in November 2022.

Kipruto, Kebede win Tokyo Marathon in record times
TOKYO: Kenyan Benson Kipruto won the men’s Tokyo Marathon in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds on Sunday, breaking former world record holder Eliud Kipchoge’s course mark in perfect racing conditions on the streets of the Japanese capital. Ethiopia’s Sutume Asefa Kebede won the women’s race ahead of Kenya’s defending champion Rosemary Wanjiru in 2:15:55, also bettering the best previous women’s time over the course from Shinjuku to the Imperial Palace. The 32-year-old’s time was almost two minutes better than his previous personal best and made him the fifth-fastest marathon runner of all time in events approved by World Athletics. Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich finished third in 2:04:18 to give Kenya a podium sweep, with Ethiopians Hailemaryam Kiros and Tsegaye Getachew in fourth and fifth places. Her time bettered Brigid Kosgei’s 2022 women’s course record of 2:16:02 and took more than two minutes off her previous personal best time of 2:18:12.

Eliud Kipchoge has suffered a major blow in preparations for the Paris Olympics after running perhaps the worst marathon of his matchless career in Tokyo. The 39-year-old Kenyan legend, who’s hoping to go for a third straight gold in Paris, could only finish 10th in the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday. Kenya hasn’t named its marathon team for the Games, but Kipchoge looked a shadow of his former self as he crossed the line in two hours, six minutes and 50 seconds. Tenth place was his worst ever finish in a marathon, leaving Kipchoge to shrug afterwards: “That’s how it is — not every day is Christmas Day”. Ethiopia’s Sutume Asefa Kebede won the women’s race, also in a course record time of 2:15:55, while Dutch great Sifan Hassan missed the podium.
