December 01, (THEWILL) – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has debunked reports that it banned the use of ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ sacks for air travellers, saying a private foreign airline took such decision as an internal policy. The media had earlier quoted a purported memo, which erroneously attributed the ban to the regulatory agency. The airlines said: “We would like to inform you of a restriction regarding the usage of irregularly shaped packages on Ethiopian airlines flight. It is strictly prohibited to bring ‘Ghana must go bags’ unless they are adequately packed in a carton or hardcover rectangular container. “This restriction has been implemented due to frequent occurrence of damages to conveyor belts at various airports, resulting in significant costs incurred by the airlines involved.

According to the airline, the ‘Ghana must go’ bags can only be used on its planes if they are packed in a cartoon or any rectangular container with a hardcover. In a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, Ethiopian Airline explained that the decision was taken to restrict the usage of the bags because they cost a lot of money by damaging conveyor belts at several airports. “We would like to inform you of a restriction regarding the usage of irregularly shaped packages on Ethiopian Airlines flights. Transport company cited for leaving monkeys on hot Atlanta Airport tarmac
Animal transport company JKL Secure Freight has been cited under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA), after workers left an air shipment of 336 endangered monkeys crammed in tiny crates on the tarmac of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) for at least 95 minutes in 87-degree heat. Air shipment to Atlanta July 16According to the report, the shipment of 336 macaques arrived on Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET518. It was the first time in several years that monkeys were flown into the Atlanta airport. PETA has subsequently urged the Ethiopian carrier to stop shipments of monkeys for the purposes of laboratory experimentation. Apart from animal welfare issues, the importation of monkeys poses a grave and potentially fatal public health risk.

Dubai prepares to host climate summit
As the United Arab Emirates gets ready to host this year's COP28 from November 30 to December 12, final preparations are underway. While this year's climate summit will be reviewing countries' progress on implementation of the Paris Agreement, the UAE have also set four themes focusing on the energy transition, climate finance, climate management inclusivity and people, their livelihoods and nature. Despite being a small country of only nine million inhabitants, the UAE emitted 237 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) in 2021, according to the Global Carbon Atlas. The Gulf state ranks at 25 tonnes of CO2 emitted per person. In contrast, African countries have an average of 1 tonne of CO2 emitted per person.
