Speaking in an XYZ TV interview monitored by GhanaWeb, Dr Segbefia said that the late Quashigah, a former minister of health, told him that Ghanaians were going to need another liberation should Akufo-Addo become president. “In 2009, I met with the late Major Courage Quashigah, that was just a year into Atta-Mills’ administration … and he said something. “The reason he gave was that if he (Akufo-Addo) becomes president, we are going to fight for Ghana’s independence over again. “When all these things started falling into place, then I quickly remembered the late Quashigah,” he added. Also, Dr Segbefia praised the over 80 New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of parliament who demanded the dismissal of finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

According to GhanaWeb’s correspondent in parliament, the chiefs are representatives of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council who are attending the sitting to provide moral support for their kinsman. Ken Ofori-Atta has been under fire with various calls being made for his removal.

The ground read: “Illegal payment of oil revenues into offshore accounts, in flagrant violation of Article 176 of the 1992 Constitution.”To assist the committee, witnesses were called from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC, to explain matters, especially with the deposition of oil funds into specific accounts. It emerged that the Finance Minister was not in any way connected to the receipt or transfer of any funds from GNPC’s Jubilee Oil Holdings Limited, JOHL, into any account. Co-chair of the committee put a pointed question to the GNPC witness about the role of Ken Ofori-Atta in purported illegal payments. “I need to understand this, in all of this, what relates to the Finance Minister in terms of the allegations made against him?” KT Hammond asked.

The National Tripartite Committee (NTC) has increased the minimum wage to GH¢ 14.88 from the earlier GH¢13.53. The increase follows the conclusion of negotiations on the determination of the 2023 National Daily Minimum Wage (NDMW) at its meeting held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in Accra. Comparing Ghana’s rate to other countries like France, the UK, US, and Germany, Ghana’s rate is substantially very low. In France, the national minimum wage is $10.71 per hour, UK is $11.43 per hour $10.59 per hour in Germany, $7.25 per hour in the US, and GH¢14.88 ($1.06) per day in Ghana. The tripartite committee noted that the increase was strongly influenced by the current economic crisis.

Africa's top scorer at the FIFA World Cup, Asamoah Gyan has completed his UEFA License B coaching course in Europe. The former Black Stars captain enrolled in a class for a six-month programme for a Football Association of Wales’ Uefa B License certificate in June 2022. Six months after enrolling in the Football Association of Wales’ UEFA B License course, the Ghanaian has now graduated and is now a certified UEFA coach. Ghana has denied issuing a travel advisory against non-essential travel to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. In a rejoinder tweeted Thursday morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that statement was unauthorized. "The Ministry is not aware of any threat targeted at Ghanaians who continue to live in harmony with their Nigerian brothers and sisters," the Ministry said. "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration regrets any inconvenience this may have caused to the travelling public". The attack coincided with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) alert that Abuja, Katsina, Kaduna, Kogi, Lagos and Zamfara were under threat.

The National Executive Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed its regional and constituency branches to end the collection of payments and other administration charges for membership card issuances. The directives follow a pledge made by Vice president Dr. Bawumia to bear the full cost of the membership cards at all levels. It was contained in a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party Justin Kodua. “Following the visit of His Excellency, the Vice President pledged to lead the fundraising efforts to provide and pay for the full cost of membership cards for all Polling Station Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives, Regional Executives, Council of elders and Patrons. “On this note, you are, therefore, directed to stop collecting payments and other administrative charges for the issuance of the membership cards from the aforementioned,” the statement added.

He told Joy News in an interview that the country’s economy has slumped yet the government has failed to rise to the occasion. When asked to rate the performance of the current government, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said, “I will rate them two out of 10.”“We have retrogressed...when I say we are a failed state, I know what I am talking about. This government is not functioning...That surprises me because I know Nana Addo was not like that. The Nana Akufo-Addo that I know is not the one ruling Ghana now,” he explained. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe noted that Ken Ofori-Atta, the embattled Minister of Finance should have resigned immediately the country decided to seek a bailout from the IMF.

Residents of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency feel indifferent about their member of parliament, Adwoa Safo, following her return to parliament. According to some residents, after abandoning the constituency for about a year, Adwoa Safo's return does not mean anything to them. Speaking to www.ghanaweb.com, the residents seemed to have regretted voting for the MP while accusing her of being irresponsible. One resident said “both Adwoa Safo and other government officials are not acting responsibly; because if this country was their sole property, will they leave the country and return as they please? A first fool they say is not a fool but the second fool is.
