Work to start on new link road and one-way system in TullamoreOffaly County Council has announced the signing of contracts for the new High Street to Tanyard link road in Tullamore. The council said the link road, along with the introduction of a one-way traffic system from the Tanyard through O’Connor Square, will allow for the regeneration of the Tanyard, the former 'Carroll’s' site, and the former 'Coen’s' site in the town. Ballinasloe-based Kenny Civils & Plant Ltd successfully tendered for the project and the contract signing took place on Friday (July 19). The work is now due to begin in the coming weeks. Offaly County Council said the link road and one-way system would help to further enhance "the transformative impact of the O’Connor Square re-development" in the county town.

08.00When I’m in Brooklyn I’ll wake up, go to the studio, paint until I get too hungry and then try to talk somebody into giving me lunch. I’ll then paint until I forget to eat dinner, then some friends will come around and drink a glass of wine and then I’ll go home. Oliver Jeffers by Erika Hokanson15.00I have a studio at the bottom of the garden but I’ll try to avoid it unless I have a really serious deadline or I’m doing a project with the kids and then it’s their studio, not mine. I used to think my fine art and my storytelling were very different enterprises. We’re not going to survive if we don’t start doing that.’17.00Friends might come over with their kids.

All tractors in Ireland will be electric when this becomes economically viable, Tánaiste Micheál Martin has said. He was speaking at the unveiling of the first electric tractor in Ethiopia - a tractor developed by an Irish company working with local partners. Mr Martin, who was on a trip to Ethiopia and Kenya, described it as an "Irish tractor" and predicted widespread use of this technology one day. "That will come when we make it economically viable, it will come," he said. David Moore, the Dubliner behind Regenerators, the company which developed this tractor as an electric model, said the project has only been possible thanks to generous support from Irish Aid.

Playwright Lou Harry and director Katherine Michelle Tanner had similar reactions when they first read the 2016 book “We Are Still Tornadoes.” They couldn’t put it down and imagined it as a play. “It was such a pleasantly and movingly digestible book, a quick read but a strong one. The movie rights also were sold but Tree Fort got permission to stage the play. Harry, who has published dozens of books and written numerous plays, said he feels like “more of a midwife of this book becoming a play. “I hope the film gets made and if it keeps the play from being staged, so be it,” he said.
