Ireland struggled at times in the game but the win against European Championship bound Hungary is a welcome one for O'Shea's side. Hungary were unbeaten for 14 games before coming to Dublin.

Three arrested after boat burned out amid row over Tricolour flagBy David Young, PAThree men were arrested after a boat was set alight in Co Antrim amid a row about a Tricolour flag that was displayed on it. Officers said the boat was later set alight and extensively damaged. The Belfast Telegraph reported that the flag was an Irish Tricolour. Three men – aged 25, 63 and 30 – were all arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including criminal damage and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The 63-year-old man was later released on bail, while the other two men remained in custody on Tuesday morning.

With a new month brings new issues with calves at grass, from coccidiosis, Vit B1 deficiency (CCN), parasites and the dreaded summer scour syndrome. Some calves were after losing weight, scouring and not thriving, I was extremely worried it could be a repeat of last year’s Summer Scour Syndrome episode. Just because you don’t see blood in the scour coccidiosis is very much still a possibility. I am determined to try and keep summer scour syndrome at bay this year. Joe Biden has expressed his pride and love for his son, Hunter, “as a dad” on the day that the 54-year old’s criminal trial began in Delaware. “Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. The key witness is likely to be Hallie Biden, widow of president Biden’s other son, Beau, who died of cancer in 2015. The prosecution has indicated that Hallie Biden will confirm Hunter Biden stayed at her home in the autumn of 2018 when both she and her children repeatedly found him with drug-related paraphernalia. Hunter Biden faces a separate trial on charges of failing to pay $1.4 million (€1.28 million) in taxes, due to begin in California in September.

Over €100k in funding announced for new cycle link in MoateThe Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, has today, announced a €16.1 million investment in outdoor recreation projects across Ireland with funding of €113,400 allocated for a cycle link from the Old Rail Trail to Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park on the Lake Road, Moate. This funding will provide for a shared walking and cycling ‘Greenway’ link from the Old Rail Trail greenway in Moate to Dún na Sí. In announcing the huge investment in outdoor projects, Minister Humphreys said: "Our beautiful outdoors have never been more available to us than today. "This investment announced today further underpins the Government’s commitment to developing our outdoor amenities as part of ‘Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors’, the national outdoor recreation strategy," she added. On the impact of today’s funding, Minister Humphreys stated:“This investment from my Department brings the overall allocation under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) to over €129 million since the scheme was first launched in 2016.

Sales of new electric cars down 22% so far this yearMichael McAleerSales of new electric vehicles (EVs) are down 21.85 per cent on last year, with its share of the overall new car market dropping below 13 per cent. EV sales have fallen in seven of the last nine months. In contrast, new car sales are up 3.8 per cent so far this year, despite a drop in May registrations. Despite the drop in fully electric sales, hybrids are proving popular, with regular hybrids making up 22 per cent of sales while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) making up 9 per cent. New car sales totalled 77,453 to the end of May, but for the month itself sales were down 15 per cent on last year at 6,407.

The Blitz Racing team from Athlone's Marist College became Irish champions at the national finals of the F1 in Schools competition held in Limerick last Friday. Athlone students claim F1 in Schools national title at finals in LimerickThree students from the Marist College in Athlone continued the school's hugely impressive run of success in the F1 in Schools initiative when they were announced as the Irish champions at the national finals of the competition in the University of Limerick last Friday. More than 150 students in 21 teams competed in the Lenovo F1 in School 2024 Ireland National Finals, making it the largest national finals here to date. The Marist's Blitz Racing team consists of Transition Year student Bruce Hollmann, and Fifth Year students Mohammed Hamzah Mateen and Boris Zhang. Later this year they will compete against F1 in Schools students from across the globe at the Aramco F1 in Schools 2025 World Finals, an event which is held annually alongside an international F1 Grand Prix.

In the new study, Welt's team tracked the health histories of 613 Utah women with primary ovarian insufficiency and 165 women who experienced early menopause. Women who underwent early menopause experienced double the odds for a breast cancer versus women who went through menopause at a more typical time, the research showed.
