Indonesia’s market watchdog said newly listing firms will be required to double their minimum free float – the number of shares available for public trading – to 15%. The announcement “highlighted investor concerns on low free float, opaque shareholding structures and scope for share price manipulation by related parties”. Critics argued that this level of concentration leaves Indonesia’s market unusually vulnerable to distortion. Over the same period, the MSCI Indonesia Index, which applies stricter investability rules, fell 3.6%. The Financial Service Authority aims to implement a higher free float requirement by March at the latest.

In practice, however, an unspoken bias persists, suspicion of academics as judges. Articles 166 and 167 of the Constitution prescribe the qualifications for judges of the High Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court. While the concept of "glamping" is not new to Kenya, the "Star Night Magadi" project elevates it to a spiritual level. The owner, Maureen, has constructed a haven that is not just off-grid but "of the grid"—built from the very earth and spirit of the landscape. The "Star Night" concept also taps into the booming "astro-tourism" market. With light pollution erasing the night sky in cities, places like Magadi—with their ink-black nights—are becoming premium destinations. Impact: Putting Magadi on the map as a lifestyle destination, not just a soda ash mining town.

Katiba Institute has moved to block any budget approvals for President William Ruto’s advisers following a court ruling. The High Court ruling declared the creation and staffing of the offices unconstitutional. Article 228 of the constitution mandates the Controller of Budget to oversee the implementation of national and county budgets by authorising withdrawals from public funds and ensuring their legality. The High Court ruled that the establishment and staffing of the presidential advisers’ offices lacked a clear constitutional or statutory basis. Despite that reprieve, the High Court on Tuesday dismissed an application seeking to stay the judgment on the presidential advisers.

Globally, well-capitalised and properly managed endowment funds have become critical pillars of national development.
