In Kenya, national carrier Kenya Airways on Wednesday, March 4, announced special repatriation flights between Nairobi and Dubai to assist passengers affected by the disruption. How repatriation flights workIn many cases, repatriation flights are not operated as profit-making services. The current Middle East crisis is a classic example of how repatriation flights operate. Why Having a National Carrier is CrucialBesides assisting in emergency situations, the presence of a national carrier signals confidence to investors. Without a strategically positioned and commercially stable airline like Kenya Airways, Kenya risks becoming little more than an expensive transit hub for other nations’ carriers.

Families of Kenyans who are in Russia and those who have died while fighting in Russia staged a protest in Nairobi on Thursday, urging the government to intervene and help bring their loved ones home. The families gathered outside Parliament, where they presented a petition calling for urgent action from the government, including assistance in repatriating the bodies of those who died abroad. ERROL PARKER | Editor-at-large | ContactIn what economic analysts are calling his most decisive act of fiscal leadership this term, Treasurer Jim Chalmers today split the "C" on a warm 600mL buddy of Vanilla Coke in his office. Witnesses say Chalmers cracked the lid with a confident quarter-turn before taking a long, contemplative pull, eyes close, head tilted back and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. The Treasurer reportedly paid full price ($4.80) despite being well aware of the two-for-$7 deal, and made no effort to grab a cold one from the fridge. Critics have seized on both decisions as further evidence of Labor's loose approach to household spending. When pressed during Question Time, Chalmers remained defiant and offered no apology.
