According to KeNHA, the upgraded road has been engineered to withstand diverse weather conditions and deliver long-term durability. MOGADISHU—Dubai-based ports and logistics giant DP World announced on Tuesday its commitment to maintain operations at Berbera Port in Somaliland, despite the Somali government’s recent decision to annul all agreements with the UAE, including crucial port contracts and defense collaborations. This announcement comes at a time of rising tensions in the region, particularly following the Israeli government’s recognition of Somaliland as an independent state. “DP World is committed to ensuring the effective and safe functioning of the port while promoting trade and economic growth for Somaliland and the broader Horn of Africa,” the company told Reuters. The UAE has established strong economic and security partnerships with Somaliland, underscored by a significant $442 million investment from DP World aimed at developing and managing Berbera Port in the semi-autonomous region. A 29-year-old man whose friends have been affected by drug abuse has caught public attention in Eldoret after undertaking a 48-hour challenge to sit on top of a tree as part of public sensitisation against the drug menace. Thomas Kipkemboi, also known as Kapkeno, climbed the tree on Monday and is expected to complete the challenge on Wednesday at 2 pm. The tree is at Nandi Gardens, which is a public park in Eldoret city, where hundreds of people have been turning up to cheer him on. He explained that he prepared for the challenge by not eating or taking drinks to avoid the need to use the toilet within the 48 hours of the Challenge. The posters are changed every hour by his friends who support the initiative and climb the tree to reach him.
