Passewe asked the court to halt the certification of Samukai because he has been convicted by the Supreme Court for the crime of money laundering. Samukai has experienced mixed rulings with the Supreme Court since he won the senatorial seat in Lofa. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Samukai and mandated to the NEC to proceed with the matter. The community is the first to be electrified under the ‘Light Up Monrovia project’, a US$63 million scheme supported by the EU through the Monrovia Consolidation of Electricity Transmission and Distribution Project. Speaking at the event on Friday, President Weah said the electrification of Peace Island Community and other suburbs of Monrovia will drive development, provide security and bring together families and communities. Also speaking, Ambassador Delahousse, declaring President Weah as “Darkness Medicine,” pledged the EU Member States’ continued support to Liberia’s development drive. Meanwhile, Finance and Development Planning Minister, Samuel D. PROJECTS SURIDO HAVE IMPLEMENTEDSince the formation of SURIDO, she has engaged in project implementation with various organizations. In this project, SURIDO organized Gender sensitive farmers, comprising mostly of youth and influential adults in the communities. SURIDO has implemented WASH project constructed wells, and trained Hand pump mechanics for Save The Children Liberia in Kakata, Magibi County. In this project, SURIDO was able to trained twenty five member’s health club for each of the eighteen schools. SURIDO signed a Community WASH project (PCA) in July 2016 in partnership with UNICEF Liberia.

On March 8 of every year, the world usually gathers to reflect and celebrate women’s achievements. What is there to celebrate when it comes to women’s participation in the decision-making process of our country? According to the UN women, Liberia ranks 40 out of 54 African countries in terms of the number of women in parliament and 149 out of 191 countries worldwide. IWD is not only a time to celebrate women but also a time to call for change. It is time for our Legislature to swiftly revisit all those legislations that have failed in the past which ‘aimed’ to promote women’s political participation.

GRAND BASSA — Prior to the construction of the new incinerator and placenta pit, the Liberia Government Hospital in Grand Bassa County, the Incinerator and Placenta Pit were outdated as need for new ones could not be overemphasized until the Americares stepped in to help. In consultation with the Grand Bassa County Health team, Americares agreed to construct a modern incinerator and a placenta pit. The U.S.-based organization also donated to the Zondo Clinic and the Liberian Government Hospital in Grand Bassa County. The Grand Bassa County Health Team, Americares and the Ministry of Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of an incinerator, placenta pit, and a waste holding building at the Government Hospital in Buchanan. In 2017, the Value of Americares donation was worth US $149,859.87 and was distributed to over 15 heath facilities in Montserrado and Grand Bassa Counties.

Monrovia — President George Weah has overemphasized the importance of the Liberia Maritime Training Institute (LMTI) describing it as a reliable component in making Liberia a maritime nation to reckon with. President Weah said education and professional skills provided at LMTI are essential to developing a pool of national workforce. The attention of the Management of Liberia Cement Corporation (CEMENCO) is disturbingly drawn to a story carried in the March 2, 2021, edition of FrontPage Africa (FPA) News Paper under the heading: LIBERIA: CEMENCO LINKED TO FRAUDULENT PACKAGING OF CEMENT. Even though the story is purported to be the outcome of an investigation conducted by FPA, Management says that at no time was it contacted by FPA to confirm and/or get its side of the story. Certainly, Management is left to wonder what kind of “investigation” was it that blind-eyed the other side (CEMENCO). Management says that from the above narrative, it is clear that CEMENCO has not engaged in any “deceptive business practice” as alleged. The Management of CEMENCO is presently in consultation with its Layers to review its legal actions.

Capitol Hill, Monrovia – The National Elections Commission (NEC) has informed lawmakers on Capitol Hill that it would cost the government US$1.1 million to conduct three by-elections in Bomi, Bong and Grand Gedeh Counties. The NEC made the disclosure in two separate communications to the House of Representatives, following announcements by the House of vacancies in the three counties. In the communication, the NEC put the cost of the elections for Bomi County District #1 at US$340, 010.77, US$359, 162.27 for Grand Gedeh District #1 and US$400,000 for Bong County District #2. The letter bearing the budget for Bong County arrived late on Thursday after the House had adjourned session, according to officials. There were several members of the House of Representatives who contested for Senatorial seats in the just ended elections.
