Monrovia – Classroom teacher Wilfred Gongloe died five years ago but his outstanding legacy as an educator is still insight. Residents of Glehyee and several other speakers who spoke during the program claimed that the resource center the first of its kind and will expose school-going children of Glehyee and adjacent towns and beyond to quality education. Nimba County senatoria candidate Edith Gongloe-Weh stated that the resource center was not the Gongloe’s development but development for the people of Glehyee, Nimba and that of Liberia. Gongloe the Fulani Community through its President Abraham Sangare had agreed to provide solar panels to the resource center. The late Wilfred Kehlebo Gongloe was born June 5, 1922 in Glehyee Zorpee and died on April 2, 2015.

Bokomu District, Gbarpolu County- The Government of Liberia has formally dedicated the second mobile-based station tower in Gbarpolu County through its Universal Access Program. The Universal Access Program is a joint initiative by government and partners through the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA). He called on the community to take care of the facility by keeping it safe, clean and well protected. For his part, Gbarpolu’s County Development Superintendent Joseph Arkoi said the people of the town and county were excited by the development and the economic impact based station will make in their lives . Mr. Arkoi said he was excited because the facility is a modern solar technology which will enable them not to worry about the cost of fuel oil.

Liberia: Organization for Women and Children Extols Liberians for Conducting Peaceful Elections, Calls on National Elections Commission to be Swift In Responding to Citizens’ ComplaintsMonrovia – The Organization for Women and Children (ORWOCH) has extolled Liberians for conducting themselves peacefully during the just ended special senatorial elections, national referendum. In the statement, ORWOCH called on the National Elections Commission (NEC) to swiftly respond to citizens’ concerns and also called on all political parties and their supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding and exercise restraint. We call on the National Elections Commission to be swift in responding to reports from citizens and call on security personnel to exercise restraint and calm. It observed that the commencement of the elections was generally peaceful with polling process on the overall opened on time except for a few places.

In an effort to popularize Liberia’s Accepted Universal Periodic Review (UPR), Rescue Alternatives Liberia (RAL) has compiled all Liberia’s Accepted UPR recommendations and distributed to public, intellectual and hatai centers as well as ordinary citizens across the country. “In this document, the recommendations marked supported are the ones Liberia accepted to implement,” Mr. Nimely said. In November 2020, Liberia’s human rights record was reviewed by the Human Rights Council in Geneva and the council used the UPR recommendations during the review. The recommendations are used by the United Nations Human Rights Council to review Liberia’s human rights record every four year. The UPR is United Nations Mechanism put in place to review the human rights record of member states every four year.

MONROVIA – The United States Department of the Treasury has issued sanctions on Grand Cape Mount County Senator, Varney Sherman, for his involvement in series of alleged corrupt practices, including bribing judges to sway cases in his favor. The sanctions were announced on Wednesday as part of the U.S. observance of International Anti-Corruption Day. With these designations, Treasury encourages all governments to implement anti-money laundering reforms to address corruption vulnerabilities. In 2016, Sherman was indicted by the Liberian government, along with several other government officials, for their involvement in the USD 950,000 bribery scheme. In 2019, the presiding judge acquitted all individuals accused of being involved in the bribery scheme.

The story of four women working for Liberia’s first industrial gold mining company in Grand Cape Mount County – southwest Liberia, shows the daring competence of women who can explore any professional path. Bea Mountain Mining Company, which runs the gold mines, seems to have covered significant number of pages in the storybook of these four women. Starting as a volunteer mechanic for Bea Mountain in 2014, the 32-year-old was destined to become famous at the mining company. She started working with the mining company in 2016 after recommendation from her previous supervisor. When the celebrations were over, she heard the mining company was offering training for female drivers; so, Handful set on a new career path.

GRAND KRU COUNTY – Grand Kru County Senator Dr. Peter Sonpon Coleman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) might be the third projected incumbent Senator to be reelected and the first Senator of Grand Kru to be given a second term. Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon and Grand Bassa County Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence have been projected as winners. The incumbent Grand Kru County Senator narrowly lead the polls according to CDC War Room, garnering 311 votes over independent candidate Numene T. H. Bartekwa. Trailing is another independent candidate, Dr. Alfred Toe Segbe, with 1,589 and Grand Kru County District #1 Representive Nathaniel Zoe Barway with 1,643 votes. Peter Coleman of the CDC is in the commanding lead in Grand Kru County.

Testifying to the three-judge panel, Mr. Kosiah denied recruiting any child soldiers for Ulimo. Mr. Kosiah, the first Liberian to face war crimes charges for his role in the Liberian civil war, said Ulimo leadership should be held accountable for recruitment of child soldiers, not him. Following that discussion, Mr. Kosiah recalled that after a long discussion, he agreed to join Ulimo within a week. MONROVIA – Supporters of the two leading candidates in the Grand Bassa Senatorial elections have both taken to the streets and jubilating victory. According to reports, the incumbent, Senator Nyonblee-Karnga Lawrence who ran on the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) ticket was in a comfortable lead Wednesday morning, according to the results gathered from various polling places in the county. However, it was observed that supporters of Mr. Milton Findley, her main contender who ran on the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) ticket, gathered near Hotel Buchanan after which they also took to the streets in jubilation, claiming victory. TUBMANBURG – Bomi County district # one Representative Edwin Melvin Snowe has taken a massive early lead in the just ended senatorial election in the county. Early Wednesday morning, scores of residents including motorcyclists, women and children took to the streets to celebrate the early lead of Representative Snowe after the voting and tallying processes. They chanted slogans and rendered prayers for Representative Snowe. Speaking on behalf of the citizens at the residence of Representative Snowe in Weakama, Senjeh District, Madam Rita Bebeh urged Representative Snowe to extend his developmental initiatives to other parts of the country to ensure that Bomi comes on par with other counties in Liberia. Already, two candidates of the just ended senatorial election have conceded to defeat and congratulated Representative Snowe for his “victory”.

Breaking: National Elections Commission Announces Conduct of Special Elections for over 3,000 Voters Deliberately Denied to Vote In Gbarpolu, Grand Gedeh and Nimba CountiesMonrovia –The National Elections Commission (NEC), through its Chairperson, Madam Davidetta Brown Lasanah, has announced the holding of special elections for over 3,000 voters who did not cast their ballots in parts of Gbarpolu, Grand Gedeh and Nimba Counties. The rare incidents, according to the NEC boss, occurred in Electoral District #2, at the Tiapa Public School Precinct with code number 33100, comprising two polling places with the total number 706 registered voters. The other place, also in Electoral #2 at a Public School, Precinct #33052, with one polling place of 290 registered voters. She also mentioned that in Lower Nimba, at the Tappeh Memorial High school in Tappita City, two temporary election staff were caught with polling boxes containing ballot papers. The local NEC office, she noted, has taken delivery of the boxes while investigation is ongoing.

Sinoe County – More than 350 children in Butaw Community and its surroundings are enjoying a new High School and a teacher’s residence with a full sanitation facility valued at USD$128,000.00 constructed and dedicated recently by Southeastern Liberia’s oil palm company, Golden Veroleum (Liberia) Inc. (GVL). Speaking in separate remarks, the Acting County Education Officer (CEO) of Sinoe County, Mr. Moses Tuwleh, and Butaw District Education Officer, Mr. Jarhwleh, praised Golden Veroleum (Liberia) Liberia for the school project. Adding that the construction of the school will boost the educational system in Butaw District and its surrounding and will also put an end to students travelling long distances to acquire high school education as it was done in the past. “We are happy that GVL has put smile on our faces, the construction of this school will boost education not only in Butaw but in Sinoe and it will put an end to long distance walking by students to acquire high school education.” they asserted. Receiving the keys to the facility, the principal of the Butaw School, Charles Tarpeh thanked GVL for the facility and pledged that the School will be properly managed and taken care of for community children benefit.
