Libya increases oil production and returns to Italy's top supplier after 10 years
La National Oil Corporation Libya's (NOC) said yesterday, Friday, that its Al Waha subsidiary managed to increase its production by 40.000 barrels per day, from October 2022. Libya: Russian deputy minister Evkurov was received in Benghazi by Khaled Haftar
Russian Deputy Defense Minister Junus-bek Yevkurov, arrived today at Benina Airport in Benghazi, eastern Libya, on his fifth visit to the country since last August. Khaled Haftar, former commander of the NLA's 106th Brigade, has attracted attention for his rapid rise in the military. Since last summer, Khaled has been placed head of the NLA "Security Forces", a new entity that also includes the Khalid ibn al Walid Brigade, one of the strongest militias in eastern Libya. The same Russian official then returned to eastern Libya in October 2023, following devastating floods in the Derna region, to meet Haftar again. The Russian Deputy Defense Minister then made another visit to Benghazi last December, during which he met Haftar again, focusing on the modalities of joint cooperation, as reported by the Cyrenaica media.

In conflict-torn Libya, artist's family turns home into museum
Bayt Ali Gana ("Ali Gana's House" in Arabic) finally opened this year, and seeks to offer both retrospection and hope in a country constantly threatened by violence and where arts and culture stand largely neglected. Once past a lush garden, visitors reach the museum's permanent exhibition of paintings, sculptures and sketches by the masterful Ali Gana. Set on a wall, an old shipping container houses an artist residency for "curators and museologists" whose skills are scarce in Libya, said Hadia Gana. During the unrest that began in 2011, Hadia Gana said she feared "losing everything if a rocket hit the house". Hadia Gana lamented that while museums should be educational spaces, "here in Libya, we don't have that notion yet".

Cleveland Museum of Art to Return a Rare Ancient Icon to Libya
While excavating an ancient Greek palace in eastern Libya in the 1930s, an archaeologist dug up a large earthen storage jar, looked inside and spotted something unexpected — a 2,200-year-old sculpture of a bearded man carved from basalt, a dark volcanic stone. The two-foot-tall antiquity, most likely chiseled during ancient Egypt’s Ptolemaic Dynasty, was a rare find. Known as a striding male figure, it is one of only 33 statues like it known to exist, Egyptologists say. But it wasn’t long before thieves got ahold of the bearded figure and took it on an illicit odyssey that brought it, in 1991, to the Cleveland Museum of Art. On Wednesday, after curators had reviewed abundant proof that the item was stolen from Libya, including photos of it on display in the 1940s at a small museum near its discovery site, the museum agreed to transfer ownership to Libyan officials.

Qatar relief project assists thousands impacted by Derna disaster
The Qatar Fund for Development has announced the successful completion of a relief project aimed at aiding over 18,000 families. In collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the initiative extended support to nearly 100,000 individuals across diverse communities. According to a statement by the Fund, the project targeted approximately 6,499 families affected by the Derna disaster, delivering essential food supplies and household items. "The aid facilitated economic recovery by granting assistance to 538 families to either initiate or restart their businesses, thereby enhancing their financial autonomy and resilience," the statement noted. The fund also highlighted that the project improved living conditions for around 8,328 families by providing essential materials and offering financial aid to approximately 82 families.

Top Chinese diplomat meets foreign guests
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met respectively with foreign guests who came to China to attend the 10th ministerial meeting of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, in Beijing on Wednesday. Dbeibah said that Libya attaches great importance to developing relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China principle. Hussein said that developing relations with China is a diplomatic priority of the Iraqi government, and Iraq always firmly supports China in safeguarding its core interests. During the meeting with Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf, Wang said that China and Algeria are sincere friends and natural partners. When meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, Wang expressed congratulations on Syria's return to the Arab League family.

Serbian Ambassador visits Libyan Businessmen’s Council – wide cooperation discussed
The Libyan Businessmen’s Council (LBC) reported yesterday that on the occasion of the resumption of the work of the Serbian embassy in Tripoli, and the transfer of its services from Tunisia, including its consular section services, the Ambassador of Serbia, Dragon Todorovic, visited the LBC yesterday. During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries and support for trade and economic programmes, were discussed. The ambassador expressed his happiness at returning to work in Libya based on his previous experience working at the Serbian embassy in Tripoli, and his good relations with Libyan institutions and bodies in the public and private sectors. He stressed his interest in economic cooperation and empowering the private sector in the two countries to support this sector, as well as interest in exchanging delegations and visits between the two countries. For his part, the LBC Executive Director gave an overview of the LBC and its objectives and stressed its support for cooperation between the two countries and the provision of all facilities in this regard.
