So begins Padma Lakshmi’s charming entry into the world of children’s book, Tomatoes For Neela, which mixes the author’s memories of family cooking with practical food advice, a nod to farm workers and even a pair of recipes. “Through food, my grandmother and my mother taught me so much about life and culture and being a person in the world. Lakshmi loved the idea and added context and reference material about farm workers at the end of the book. The germ of the book was triggered when Lakshmi’s real-life daughter, Krishna, came home several years ago craving a pomegranate. “It’s a hugely autobiographical book,” says Lakshmi.

Malaysia, the world's second-largest producer of palm oil, is facing a perfect storm of production headwinds that will likely drag global stocks to their lowest level in five years. Malaysian Palm Oil Board data shows a drop in average crude palm oil yields to 1.41 tonnes per hectare, from 1.56 tonnes over the same period last year. However, operations at palm oil mills, where the palm fruit is converted into crude palm oil, have been impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, said Dorab Mistry, director of Indian consumer goods company and major consumer Godrej International. "We have multiple issues with edible oil supplies worldwide, palm oil in Malaysia, canola in Canada and La Nina curbing soybean output in South America," Mistry said. The price pressure may continue as higher edible oil costs are passed on by suppliers, leaving consumers with little choice but to pay up for the staple.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia will be counting on either Lee Shun Yang or Shaqeem Eiman Shahyar to deliver the goods in the men’s singles event at the Hella International in Greece. The two 20-year-olds have assured Malaysia of a place in the title match after making it an all-Malaysian affair in the semi-final yesterday. Shun Yang overcame compatriot Jacky Kok 21-12, 21-17 while Shaqeem defeated Englishman Johnie Torjussen 21-19, 21-17 in the other quarter-final clash. The men’s singles shuttlers are under pressure to perform as they were the only department which have failed to produce winners at last week’s Latvia International, which marked the first of their three European stint. Wyman Goh, who failed to even reach the main draw last week, failed to impress in Greece too.

A Chinese study published last month in The Lancet showed that in some cases, long Covid can last for more than a year. “From our preliminary findings on long Covid among 525 respondents from the community setting, 46.7% and 20.6% of them experience post-Covid symptoms up to 12 weeks and more than three months, respectively,” says Prof Moy, whose research defines long Covid as symptoms which persist more than three months post recovery. The study also found that there is no difference in the proportions of long Covid among the different age groups. In Malaysia, some public hospitals such as University Malaya Medical Centre and Sungai Buloh Hospital provide dedicated Long Covid clinics. For the long term, there are a number of policies that can be introduced here in Malaysia to assist those struggling with long Covid.

Among the most common methods for NDT are ultrasonic radiography, liquid penetrant inspection and magnetic particle inspection.
