All but two women and four men among the Games' 128 archers agreed to participate, with data retained only in the form of archived TV footage. "I like it because I am able to know heart rates of other athletes, and think, 'Oh, that athlete is always calm,'" said Japanese archer Miki Nakamura. Some archers find lower pulse rates help steady their aim, though research in simulated conditions has shown the measure has little influence on scores. Out of the 128 archers representing 51 countries at the Tokyo Games, 122 archers are being monitored. For World Archery, heart rates on TV has been a decade-long pursuit.

(July 30): A windfall of more than US$230 billion from the International Monetary Fund for emerging and developing nations is luring investors into the riskiest debt markets. “Emerging markets don’t have the Fed, but they do have the IMF,” said Thomas Christiansen, deputy head of emerging market fixed income at UBP. The funds are part of a US$650 billion package for IMF members. Junk-rated sovereign debt from emerging markets has trounced safer, developing-nation bonds this year, despite the Covid-19 resurgence and concerns over more expensive borrowing costs as U.S. rates rise. China has a 25% weight in the gauge following investment-grade bonds from emerging markets.

Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over its decision to release superhero movie Black Widow on streaming at the same time as in theatres, alleging a breach of contract which cost the star millions of dollars. Johansson, one of Hollywood's biggest and top-paid stars, was entitled to a percentage of box office receipts from the much-anticipated Marvel film, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday at Los Angeles Superior Court. Disney – which owns superhero movie powerhouse Marvel Studios – did not immediately respond to AFP request for comment. Like many Hollywood studios, Disney is increasingly prioritising streaming as a source of future revenue. Following the film's opening weekend, Disney issued a press release claiming Black Widow had earned "over US$60M" (RM254mil) on Disney+ alone, where it was available to subscribers at an additional US$30 (RM127) cost.

There used to be a logbook for visitors to sign in, but this was removed after a spike in Covid-19 cases in the vicinity. He asked for the logbook but was told it would not be provided. Shouldn’t mall operators and/or all business operators ensure that logbooks are provided for those who are unable to scan the MySejahtera code? For such instances, wouldn’t it be sensible for businesses and mall operators to provide the logbook as an alternative? Mall and business operators should be required to ensure that alternatives are provided so that no one is prevented from entering their premises.

THE expiry of the Emergency Proclamation on Aug 1 saw the Dewan Rakyat briefly turning into a ‘courthouse’ with several legally trained MPs raising arguments on the matter. Hassan noted the Emergency Proclamation would automatically lapse on Aug 1 and any debates by then would merely be academic. “I cannot make an interpretation of Article 150(3) as a lawyer in the House as this is not under my powers. However, Gobind Singh Deo (PH-Puchong) argued that the proclamation should be tabled with a vote taken to revoke it. Several Opposition MPs also stood up to argue on the legal points under Article 150(3) with Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (Amanah-Sepang) jibing Azhar that he sounded like “the best lawyer in the world”.
