Mydin managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said he would have supported a call not to implement a full lockdown six days ago. Universiti Malaya expert virologist Prof Dr Sazaly Abu Bakar also agreed that the country needed a total lockdown due to the rising cases. The Federation of Malaysian Business Associations said the call for a total lockdown was not unwarranted as previous calls for compliance for strict SOP were ineffective. “We are calling for the government to issue stricter nationwide lockdown to ensure we break the chain of infection. We are ready to bite the bullet for the sake of the nation and the people but simultaneously implement an urgent economic recovery stimulus package, ” it said.

While tech companies face high-profile scrutiny in Washington, they quietly wield power in statehouses to shape public policy and stamp out unwelcome laws. Tech companies argue that right-to-repair laws would let pirates rip off intellectual property and expose consumers to security risks. Unlike Microsoft, Apple often lets hired guns or trade groups do its advocacy. Additionally, the document said these laws would mandate tech companies to hand over sensitive trade secrets. In Colorado, two lobbyists from Capstone Group registered on behalf of Apple to oppose a repair bill this year, state records show.

In the summer of 2020, US President Donald Trump developed a bizarre obsession with TikTok. Amid a pandemic, historic unemployment and racial unrest subsuming the country, the daily flood of headlines turned to the Chinese-owned social media app. In August 2020, in an attempt to deal another blow to Beijing, Trump issued a pair of executive orders banning TikTok unless the app’s US business was sold to an American technology company. Zhang Yiming, the founder of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance Ltd, openly negotiated for months to sell TikTok. However, an alternative strategy prevailed: ByteDance waited out President Trump until he was voted out of office.

KYIV (Reuters) - Ukraine's parliament named a new health minister on Thursday, who promised to speed up vaccinations against COVID-19, including by trying to make vaccines domestically. Viktor Lyashko, previously a deputy health minister, was promoted to replace Maksym Stepanov, who was fired this week after Prime Minister Denys Shmygal accused him of failing to supply vaccines quickly enough. We will do everything so that Ukrainians can be vaccinated, work and travel," Lyashko told the parliament. Shmygal said this week only 2.3 million doses of vaccine had been delivered to Ukraine so far. Ukraine has registered around 2.2 million infections and 48,899 deaths since the start of the pandemic last year.

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): "It wasn't easy to tell my mother that she tested positive for Covid-19," says pensioner Nin Zairani Mohd Ali, 61. Nin Zairani and her family did not expect their healthy and strong mother to be infected with the virus and succumb to it. The key questions are how long the issue of SOP violation will drag on, and why many people are letting their guard down despite the surge in Covid-19 cases. On Wednesday (May 19), Malaysia recorded its highest-ever number of daily Covid-19 cases at 6,075, with the death toll increasing to 2,040 after 46 deaths were reported over a 24-hour period. However, if people are still ignorant or stubborn and continue to violate SOPs, daily cases may continue to spike, burdening the frontliners who are still struggling to fight the pandemic.

MALAYSIA Aviation Group Bhd (MAG), parent of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB), recently set a new benchmark for airlines undergoing debt restructuring after completing its own exercise in record time, says Captain Izham Ismail, group CEO of both companies. The restructuring saw MAG’s creditors being split into seven classes, including aircraft operating lessors, aircraft finance lessors, spare engine lessors and maintenance service providers. However, MAB took only 44 of the aircraft operating lessors to the UK court to approve a scheme of arrangement. The aircraft operating lessors, on the other hand, gave us an average 40% haircut on aircraft rentals. “Our restructuring is now a benchmark for lessors when they talk to other airlines.

It does not contain the word “risk” because the good professor felt that entrepreneurs do not see themselves as risk-junkies. Stevenson’s definition also does not limit the practice of entrepreneurship to those who start and grow their company. Obama is not exactly someone whose image we would conjure when speaking about entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship, but he gave added meaning to the word. The dream of entrepreneurship, of becoming a multimillionaire through your own endeavour, is difficult to dismiss. Entrepreneurship allows individuals a shot at the even deeper pleasure of doing work that they cannot do while working for others.

Wong told journalists the Singapore Government was ready to move forward following the strong Indian government response to the remarks by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. He said the Singapore Government was particularly "heartened" by external affairs minister S. Jaishankar's tweet. "Second, (Dr Jaishankar said) the Delhi chief minister doesn't speak for India and that the comments made were irresponsible." The Delhi chief minister caused a diplomatic stir with the claim that the "new strain" could potentially lead to a third Covid-19 wave in India. India and Singapore have close diplomatic ties and most analysts have dismissed this episode as an aberration in an otherwise smooth relationship.
