KUALA LUMPUR (April 2): Malaysia and China have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the establishment of a high-level committee to promote cooperation in the post-Covid-19 era, a historic development in Malaysia-China relations and the first of its kind for Malaysia. Hishammuddin's two-day visit to China was on the invitation of Wang Yi. During their joint press conference yesterday, Hishammuddin said pursuant to the MoU, the high-level committee on post-Covid-19 cooperation was also established, co-chaired by him and Wang Yi. He stated that efforts will initially focus on laying a solid foundation for reciprocal visits by leaders of both countries — for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s official visit to China soon — and for the leadership of China to visit Malaysia. “I would like to thank Wang Yi on his personal commitment to resolving the matter expediently following consultations with the relevant health and border authorities,” he said.

Counting the frown lines on his forehead, Seng Sook must be about the same age as my grandfather. Although Seng Sook had a craggy and gaunt-looking face, he had a kind voice and heart. Being an honest man, Seng Sook did not demand any tips. Through the cracks in his door, I saw Seng Sook and his friends lying down on their beds. Sadly, thousands of tin-mining coolies suffered the same fate as Seng Sook.

COLCHESTER, England: Sixteen years after losing his right arm in a car crash, a trainee vicar from Colchester has had his prayers answered thanks to a bionic arm. What Aaron had found was the bionic ‘Hero Arm’ from British company Open Bionics. The prosthetic Hero Arm uses myoelectric sensors which detect underlying muscular contractions generated from specific muscle groups in the arm. These are then amplified and converted to intuitive and proportional bionic hand movements. But bionics and being bionic, I’ve been dubbed ‘the bionic Rev’, I believe it’s the most empowering language I’ve seen around disability.” – Reuters

I was contemplating whether to renew my car’s road tax and fortunately, the government announced the extension, so I can now drive with ease of mind. “Taxi drivers pay only RM2 for a year’s road tax. “Although our road tax is cheap, the expensive insurance still needs to be renewed every year, ” he said.

Now this may be a slight exaggeration, but I dare you to use any of these roads that have been narrowed due to highway construction without trepidation. I usually go to Klang on Sundays to see my parents, and every time I use Jalan Jambatan Kota, I feel I’m dicing with danger. I have experienced this same feeling along Jalan Syed Putra where there is overhead highway construction and Jalan PJU 8/1 in Damansara Perdana where the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) Highway is being constructed. “Contractors must make it a point to regularly review safety aspects at construction sites.” As statements go, this little nugget from Niosh was probably the understatement of them all. You rarely, if ever, hear of the board of directors taking responsibility or senior management resigning or disciplinary action taken against negligent employees.
