Publisher Scholastic has halted publication of a book by children's author Dav Pilkey, best known for his Captain Underpants series, who offered an online apology for the title's unintended "racist imagery". "It was brought to my attention that this book also contains harmful racial stereotypes and passively racist imagery," said Pilkey. "It was and is wrong and harmful to my Asian readers, friends and family, and to all Asian people." He later achieved international recognition with his Captain Underpants series, which was adapted as a film. The Captain Underpants books are on the American Library Association's list of the top 100 most banned and challenged books from the past decade because of complaints from parents about violent imagery.

More celebrities have paid tribute to Hong Kong actor Liu Kai Chi, who died of stomach cancer at 66 on Sunday (March 28). One of them was action superstar Jackie Chan, who had acted with Liu - affectionately known as Uncle Chi - in New Police Story (2004). Jackie Chan wrote in Chinese on Weibo on Monday: "My serendipity with Uncle Chi was not only when we worked together on New Police Story with director Benny Chan. KUALA LUMPUR: The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) is investigating a syndicate suspected of running five unlicensed investment schemes, including two clone firm schemes, thathad duped hundreds of investors of more than RM7 million into unlicensed investment activities. "The SC also brought down the servers used by the syndicate to perpetrate the scams. According to the SC, initial investigations showed that the syndicate had been operating at least fiveunlicensed investment schemes since 2016, namely Amal Trust (also known as Wakala Ventures or AML Global), Asia Equity Ventures, Equity Global Business, Lindale Ventures, and Waheed Ventures (also known as Waheed Trading or Wadeed Global Ventures). The 69-year-old community college educator and author will be the subject of the 22-page Female Force: Jill Biden, which will be released in print and digitally on April 7. NILAI: All reports against VVIPs for allegedly violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines are investigated, says Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed. Dismissing claims that police overlook infringements by VVIPs, he said 12 reports of such breaches were received since the movement control order was first enforced last year and all of them were investigated. "Some VVIPs were found to have breached the SOPs and were slapped with compounds which they subsequently paid. "We recorded a statement from the hotel management on the wedding on Tuesday night and will probe the matter further. Comm Huzir said the police would act accordingly if there was a clear violation of the SOPs.

Young Moroccan cartoonist Zainab Fasiki draws on a whiteboard in a Casablanca studio where she is holding a workshop that mixes art with a homegrown illustrated #MeToo campaign. Unlike in the broader #MeToo movement, the Moroccan women who have agreed to share their stories for the campaign have preferred to remain anonymous. The participants in the Casablanca workshop are looking for creative comebacks to some of the toxic reactions the campaign has elicited. Around a dozen students and professionals gathered for an art workshop with Fasiki, a pioneer in comics and illustration, in response to a web series titled #TaAnaMeToo.
