LBS Bina founder Lim Bock Seng dies
KUALA LUMPUR (March 28): LBS Bina Group Bhd confirmed today that its founder Datuk Seri Lim Bock Seng has died. News reports, quoting LBS Bina's separate statement on that day, said that Bock Seng had served as the chairman of LBS Bina since Dec 6, 2001. Today, LBS Bina executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Hock San said in a statement that the company is deeply saddened by the loss of its founder Bock Seng, who was also Hock San's father. According to LBS Bina's statement, Bock Seng's funeral will take place at the Nirvana Center Kuala Lumpur here from tomorrow onwards. LBS Bina has 1.54 billion issued shares, according to the company's latest quarterly financial report.

Kane targets England glory amid speculation over Spurs future

Jose Mourinho's side can still salvage their season by winning next month's League Cup final against Manchester City, which would be their first major trophy since 2008. Amazon delivery drivers scoff at company's claim that workers don't urinate in bottles
On social media and in interviews, drivers delivering Amazon packages said the company's claim was out of touch with their reality. "The lack of rest and meal breaks was part of the culture for Amazon delivery drivers," said Seattle driver Henry Abreu in the lawsuit. One of Amazon's defences against those claims was that the company does not directly employ many of the drivers delivering Amazon packages. All told, more than 400,000 contract or self-employed drivers deliver goods for Amazon. In social media groups for Amazon warehouse workers and delivery drivers Thursday, workers shared stories of when they were forced to pee in a bottle.

True to form: Tan Sri V.C. George's book offers playful and beautifully crafted stories
George, remembers an incident many years ago where he and a few friends were at the house of lawyer Stanley Ponniah. The book contains 100 of the many funny stories George has told all through his colourful life... all written in his witty style. George has written over 100 written judgments in various law journals, and was very active in Bar Council affairs. The book, written during the lockdown months, was supposed to coincide with George’s 90th birthday celebrations last December. When reading through some of the hilarious court proceedings in the book, George’s love for the law clearly shines through.

Big Smile, No Teeth: Tech gadgets may be getting more expensive soon
I bought these cheap shorts the other day. I didn’t see any difference in the shorts compared with the more expensive ones except maybe that the pockets were a little shallow. And not just our usual tech devices because now everything has tech in it. Which means in the near term, prices for all our tech is going to do exactly what you’d expect: They’re going to go up. Seems like all that tech we love might be a little harder to come by in the next little while.

MACC roping in dept heads
PUTRAJAYA: Incidents of corruption and power abuse among civil servants are alarming, which is why the country’s anti-graft body is seeking the cooperation of department heads to weed out the menace within the public service. MACC chief Datuk Seri Azam Baki said the numbers are quite telling as to how serious the problem is. “Another concern is that corruption and power abuse are likely to cause leakages to government funds. “With better cooperation from heads of department, it will make MACC’s job of fighting corruption more effective. Last year, MACC arrested 467 civil servants on suspicion of corruption and power abuse with the majority of the offenders – 350 of them – being support staff.

Understanding anti-Asian hate: You eat dogs, don’t you?
According to Stop AAPI Hate, a nonprofit organisation that represents Asian-Ameri-cans and Pacific Islanders, close to 3,800 hate incidents against Asian- Americans were reported in the first full year of the Covid-19 pandemic. Not a new phenomenonFirst, let it be noted that the United States is not the only nation to witness these incidents. In Vancouver, Canada, police records show that anti-Asian hate crimes rose from a dozen in 2019 to 142 incidents last year. Secondly, racial jibes and attacks on Asians are not a new phenomenon in the United States or elsewhere. Still, such hate does tend to rise at times of social stress – and in the United States, particularly when American vulnerabilities are palpable.

Row over cotton and human rights
Anger brews in China over brands boycotting Xinjiang cotton, linking it to claims of forced labour. This commodity has in recent years been “politically tainted” following accusations of forced labour at cotton fields in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) – an influential non-profit organisation to promote sustainable cotton farming – has stopped issuing licences to cotton producers in the region since early last year. The flame quickly spread to Adidas, Nike, Uniqlo, Muji and some others, and old statements they made in relation to the ban on Xinjiang cotton resurfaced. China’s Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said Xinjiang cotton is among the best worldwide and it would be a loss for companies not using it.

Party loyalty comes first
Of course, there are a few, especially those holding ministerial positions in the Perikatan Nasional Cabinet, that are now rejecting it. Umno can pick any sincere party to form the next government if we win the most seats in GE15. Umno will go ahead with party polls. I hope it will be held before party polls. I did not pick anybody as team members when I contested in the party polls in 2018 and I will not do so this time.

I’m glad, over these years, I’ve built a good relationship with Chong Wei, Zii Jia and other players too. Last week, Zii Jia defeated two world champions – Kento Momota of Japan and Viktor Axelsen of Denmark en route to winning the All-England men’s singles title. Zii Jia was given a show cause letter to buck up and fans hurled all kinds of hurtful criticism via social media. 10 Zii Jia withdrew into a dark place, where he allowed self-doubt to eat away at him. Zii Jia is a young player, so the way I deal with him is different.
