A ride-hailing driver in China has allegedly killed a passenger after repeatedly running them over with his car during a pickup dispute. News of the horrific killing has sparked renewed scrutiny of ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing’s accountability for its driver’s conduct. Didi said that the driver passed a background check in 2019, as he had no prior criminal records and had been a passenger driver for 19 years. “We will try to eliminate all safety risks, enhance driver safety training and lower the rate of safety incidents. In 2018, two women were raped and killed by Didi drivers.

When I decided to go into private practice in 1994, I looked at all my options. An established hospital also means established rules and regulations that you have to follow, even if you might not like them. You can changeChoosing the type of private practice you want to go into can be a daunting task. I have seen specialists starting their own private practices, then later moving to a private hospital, and vice versa. This is the third article in a weekly series about surviving private practice in Malaysia.

After recovering from Covid-19 last year, British poet and children’s author Michael Rosen will soon be releasing Sticky McStickstick, a personal memoir picture book that depicts his time in hospital and his recovery. The 74-year-old former Children’s Laureate spent seven weeks in intensive care last year, between March and May, after contracting Covid-19. During his rehabilitation, he used a hospital-issued walking stick he named Sticky McStickstick. Such self-sacrifice!”In a separate release, Rosen talks about his experience with Covid-19 in 'Many Different Kinds Of Love: A Story Of Life, Death And The NHS'. Sticky McStickstick is a story of perseverance and a testament to the importance of overcoming fear and accepting help.

The Upin & Ipin series has been acknowledged as a Malaysian success story in animation by many people. Upin & Ipin carries on the single ethnic dominance construct that has torn this nation apart for 60 years and is set to do so for another 60. Why had parents or teachers not recommended their students watch Upin & Ipin? Why am I so concerned about the Upin & Ipin series to the point of making it a national issue? Perhaps the writers of Upin & Ipin need help to write stories that would do justice to each of the other 39 ethnic groups.

PETALING JAYA: Stanley Choi’s increased stake in low-cost carrier AirAsia Group Bhd is no ordinary bet but one where he has factored in calculated risks just like he would in any of his poker games. Choi, whose first experience with AirAsia was on a flight from Kaohsiung to Manila two years ago, believed AirAsia would be among the first to bounce back as the economy recovers. On his involvement in AirAsia, Choi said he would remain a passive investor but contribute his thoughts and expertise on mergers and acquisitions (M&As) as well as expanding the airline’s network to China, Hong Kong and Macau. While Choi is ultimately looking for the royal flush from his investment in AirAsia, he is aware that it all depends on how the economic recovery comes along. In this, Choi said his investment in AirAsia is akin to him holding pocket queens or jacks, which are among the strongest pairs in the game.

TEL AVIV (Reuters) - The 2011 party in central Israel turned grim when a woman was cornered by two men in a side-room. It was a strength-in-numbers moment that inspired one of the friends, Neta Schreiber, to develop SafeUp, an app that allows women who feel threatened or unsafe to summon help from other subscribers. While Tel Aviv is considered relatively safe in terms of violent crime, the new app has been welcomed by its women. Some 45% of women subjected to violence or threats of violence file complaints with police. "Personally, I feel in Tel Aviv really safe, and I usually don't go super late at night.

The world celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8 and I was a little bothered by the whole thing. Today, many enlightened people happily acknowledge this beautiful and empowering statement that women do indeed hold up half the sky. Because the truth is that much of the world operates on a patriarchal system, in which men are given authority over women in almost all aspects of society. Patriarchy rules on the world stage, with male-centric attitudes dominating most of civilisation today and permeating into decision-making at every level. Patriarchy is an obsolete system that is no longer relevant (and in my book, never relevant to begin with).

And the criminal world has taken notice. When Will Bevan discovered that his collie’s five new puppies had been stolen, he says it felt “like being punched in the stomach”. “If you get caught selling or stealing a stolen dog, you are looking at a fine of about £250 (RM1,415), ” he says. She advises dog owners not to post photos of their new puppies on social media to avoid attracting thieves’ attention. And there is some reason for hope: after all, some 200 stolen dogs were reunited with their owners last year, according to Doglost.

US colleges and universities rushing to invest in the booming arena of varsity esports are overwhelmingly committing opportunities and scholarships to male players, according to data collected by The Associated Press. The law mandates equitable opportunities to participate in sports for men and women, and it requires that scholarships be offered proportionally to participation. Many schools, intentionally or not, have sidestepped those restrictions by housing their eSports programme outside of the athletic department. “It’s just saying they don’t like to watch Die Hard.”League Of Legends is a staple of collegiate eSports programmes, as are male-dominated Madden and Call Of Duty. Boise State was among the more equal schools in the AP's survey, with 16 male players, five female players and three who identified as nonbinary.

Interpol issued new guidelines for law enforcement on Nov 17, 2020, when the approval and roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines was imminent. The Covid-19 vaccines are in the custody of the Health Ministry, whose employees are the sole vaccinators to date. According to the Guidelines for the Determination of Frontliners for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Garis Panduan Penetapan Senarai Barisan Petugas Hadapan Bagi Program Imunisasi Covid-19 Kebangsaan), frontliners are defined as those at high risk of contracting and spreading Covid-19 infection. “It also falls short of providing resources for educating those with comorbidities on the Covid-19 vaccine as it relates to their condition. to visit some place(s) with Covid-19 vaccination included as part of the tour package.

(March 15): Myanmar security forces fired on pro-democracy demonstrators on Monday killing five people, media and witnesses said, a day after dozens of protesters were shot dead and attackers torched several Chinese-financed factories in the city of Yangon. The Myanmar Now media outlet reported three people were killed there and two in Aunglan town. The Chinese embassy urged Myanmar's ruling generals to stop violence and ensure the safety of people and property. "Heartbroken/outraged at news of the largest number of protesters murdered by Myanmar security forces in a single day. (March 15): Cristiano Ronaldo hailed Pele after he surpassed the Brazilian great's goal-scoring haul in official matches by netting a hat-trick in Juventus' 3-1 Serie A win over Cagliari on Sunday. Since soccer’s world governing body FIFA does not keep an official record of who is on top of the all-time scoring list, it is a benchmark that is hotly contested. On Sunday, however, Ronaldo ignored Bican's revised total to claim he was now on top of the scoring pile. “Today, as I reach the 770th official goal in my professional career, my first words go straight to Pele. Nevertheless, Pele congratulated Ronaldo on Sunday.

I READ with great interest the column by Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai on involving private hospitals to run a parallel vaccination programme (“Synergised solution”, On the Beat, Sunday Star, March 14; online at bit.ly/star_programme). Private hospitals can have their own strategy without interfering with the National Covid-19 Vacci-nation Programme. Their target would be to start a private initiative only in June, after the government starts Phase Two. I think this public- private vaccination initiative should be welcomed by the government and not viewed as an effort to dismantle the national vaccination programme. Already some countries have started, or are planning, to allow private hospitals to initiate their own plans to expedite the vaccination rollout.
