For contemporary artist Tan Kar Mern, climate change is an urgent topic and her canvas remains a grey abyss of barren landscapes. The showcase was the culmination of Tan’s three-month studio programme (last year) with the art space called 3M Studio. 'Using printmaking and imagination as my medium of raising awareness, I take to the paper to express my sentiments and reflections on climate change and ecological calamity,' says Tan. I like to believe that using art as a medium to discuss the matter of climate change can be the first step to engaging the public. Using printmaking and imagination as my medium of raising awareness, I take to the paper to express my sentiments and reflections on climate change and ecological calamity.

PETALING JAYA: Having roasted Western celebrity chefs over how they cooked fried rice, Uncle Roger found himself on the receiving end of some schooling by fellow Malaysian Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, better known as Chef Wan. Uncle Roger, the alter ego of London-based Malaysian standup Nigel Ng, was put on the spot when he was challenged to prepare Lamb Shank Kerutup at Chef Wan’s restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. “I see (for) Uncle Roger, everything tastes like fried rice, fried rice, fried rice, ” said Chef Wan before Ng again failed to identify fennel, calling it “Chinese medicine”. Mind here, okay.”Declaring that a great chef “does not measure the ingredients but just throws these into the cooking”, Chef Wan said: “We boil all our lamb and you just throw inside, like that. See that, very easy.”Asked where his MSG (monosodium glutamate) – Uncle Roger’s confessedly “favourite ingredient” – was, Chef Wan said that was not Chinese cooking.

(Reuters) - Defending champion Rory McIlroy's nightmare at the Players Championship continued on Friday, with the Northern Irishman certain to miss the cut after shooting a second-round 75 that dropped him to 10-over par. The Northern Irishman, the first defending champion to miss the cut since Rickie Fowler in 2016, said his bid to add speed and power to his game, inspired by Bryson DeChambeau's U.S. Open triumph, had backfired. "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't anything to do with what Bryson did at the US Open. The cut will be made official on Saturday after the completion of the second round, which was paused due to fading light. England's Lee Westwood compiled a bogey-free six-under 66 to take the halfway lead on nine under, one ahead of compatriot Matt Fitzpatrick.

KUDOS to the government and all stakeholders for ensuring that no students are left behind, “All in favour of making digital learning a success” (The Star, March 8). All fine and good, but we need to reach out to our older citizens and help them get on the digital literacy programme. Phase 2 of the national vaccination programme for the high-risk groups of senior citizens aged 65 and above begins next month. It is high time we set up an IT institute or academy where senior citizens can enrol for short courses to learn about various e-services, social media, apps and even coding. Not only was he one of the sweetest men I have met, he knew every corner of the hill by heart. How can we reach the summit of success in sports if our leaders think for themselves rather than others? Hopefully, those who aspire to lead Malaysian sports one day will choose to follow the trail of leadership traits shown by people like Subahan and Hamidin. * The writer enjoys her hiking trips, being close to nature, meeting friendly strangers and learning something new from fellow hikers.
