Wednesday, 16 August, 2023 - 19:28"Chris Hipkins’ self-proclaimed "watershed moment" has turned out to instead be a case of him being completely outsmarted by a global corporation’s greenwashing PR strategy," says ACT Leader David Seymour. "Chris Hipkins’ self-proclaimed "watershed moment" has turned out to instead be him being outsmarted by a global corporation’s greenwashing PR strategy," says ACT Leader David Seymour. "Hipkins has fallen for the oldest trick in the book, he has played the role of hapless, starstruck politician to perfection. Sadly, it seems like his Government’s policies of burning more coal weren’t what attracted Blackrock, more likely it was his Government’s naivety and willingness to be pawns in a giant greenwashing PR campaign. "ACT predicted this was the case, I said at the time "Effectively banning people from using fossil fuels is virtue signalling on a global scale using other people’s money."

A state so bereft of sensible tax policy did not get that way by accident. How many economists and tax lawyers does it take to prevent a meaningful redistribution of wealth? Why is the sound of the whole Press Gallery criticising his GST policy music to the Prime Minister’s ears? The same principle is at work in relation to the condemnatory commentary of the economists and tax lawyers. The more the “experts” criticise Labour’s policies, the more credibility those policies acquire.

First up today, the overnight dairy auction was a terrible one. Prices fell -7.4% in USD terms and -4.8% in NZD terms, principally on an almost -11% dive in the dominant WMP price (-8.5% in NZD terms). Remember these falls are from the prior auction two weeks ago which was also quite weak, so the declines are compounding. The WMP price is down -8.2% from just last week at the GDP Pulse event. The WMP price is back to levels we last had in August 2016.
