Graham comes across cable ties in SA house after family tragedy
Graham Dickason found three sets of cable ties in a cupboard when he returned to South Africa after the family tragedy in New Zealand. The cable ties were tied together. “It was a big concern for me when I came across (the cable ties),” Graham testified via audio-visual link in the High Court in Christchurch on Tuesday. Graham lifted the blankets and saw the cable ties around their necks. Graham hastily cut the cable ties around his little girls’ necks with scissors, but they were already dead.

‘Lauren was not in a good place’ – Graham Dickason
Dr. Graham Dickason says his wife, Lauren, was a caregiver who would always make sure their little girls ate and were cleanly dressed. One of the children tested positive for Covid-19 before the emigration and this put an enormous amount of stress on Lauren. Graham testified on Tuesday – day two of Lauren’s murder trial – via audio-visual link from South Africa in his wife’s murder trial. Graham told the police during this interview that the family had stayed with his mother before the emigration. He told the court that after their arrival in New Zealand, Lauren had hoped that he would stay at home with his family for the first week.

The High Court at Christchurch has heard evidence from Graham Dickason at his wife's murder trial. Lauren Dickason admits killing their daughters in Timaru in 2021 - a six-year old and two-year-old twins, but she's mounting a defence of insanity and infanticide. Her husband told the court via audio visual link from South Africa about his wife’s anxiety, depression and struggles with fertility and motherhood. The Herald's Anna Leask his testimony was extremely distressing. "He spoke about the harrowing details of coming home that night and finding his three little girls dead in their beds and how he tried to revive them- and the grief he suffered as a result."

Roger Douglas turns his back on the Act Party
Act Party co-founder Roger Douglas is sitting on the fence this election. Douglas was one of two founding members of the Act Party in 1993, alongside former National Party MP Derek Quigley, after being instrumental in Labour’s neoliberal reforms in the 1980s. But Douglas has become increasingly disillusioned with the Act Party, which he says has strayed from its original principals and now “represents only the wealthy”. National party leader Christopher Luxon said he wanted as big a party vote as feasible and he’d accept all-comers. “We’ll take Roger Douglas, and we’ll work hard to get as many New Zealanders as possible to party vote National,” he said.

National are still barely ahead of Labour and ACTs race baiting keeps empowering the Maori Party. If the Maori Party are focused on legacy, they will make those bottom-lines for their Supply and Confidence support universal policies gains, not intrinsically Māori interests. Bottom-lines as broad as that in a cost of living crisis will see many working poor vote Maori Party. Labour holds the centre, the Greens just hold and the Maori Party does the heavy lifting. That is the only mathematical way the Left wins.

Breakfast briefing: APRA targets unlisted asset values
In Australia, prudential regulator APRA has been pushed into a crackdown on their superannuation funds, and how they value unlisted assets. The suspicion is that many of these assets are being carried a values that can't be achieved in a high yield market. The UST 10yr yield will start today at 3.80% and down -3 bps from this time yesterday. The Australian 10 year bond yield is now at 3.98% and down -2 bps from yesterday. That all means the TWI-5 is now down at 70.7 and -30 bps lower from yesterday.

Westpac economists still see OCR rise next month
Westpac economists are sticking to their market outlying view that the Reserve Bank will increase the Official Cash Rate again next month. Most economists now believe the RBNZ is 'done' with the OCR hikes, which have seen the rate rise with unprecedented speed from just 0.25% in October 2021. The Westpac economists are still sticking by their view that the RBNZ will be forced into action sooner, as soon as next month. "However, the month ahead will see some key information in the form of the June quarter CPI and labour market report," Gibbs said. Westpac economists are among a group of main bank economists that have forecast quarterly headline inflation at 0.9%, which would see annual inflation slipping to 5.9%.
