Pakistan suicide bombing death toll rises to 45
Pakistan officials have said the death toll in a suicide bombing at a political rally held by a religious party has risen to 45 on Monday. An official at a state-run rescue agency, Bilal Faizi, said the death toll had risen to 45. A police counter-terrorism wing investigating the blast suspected the Islamic State group was behind it, police said in a statement. Pakistan has seen a resurgence of attacks by Islamist militants since last year when a ceasefire between the Pakistani Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and the government broke down. A mosque bombing in Peshawar city in the northwest killed more than 100 people in January but attacks on political parties are rare.

Oyo workers protest, lock state Secretariat, demand palliatives, others
The Oyo State workers, on Monday, locked the state secretariat in Ibadan to demand palliatives, upward review of pension allowances and payment of salary deduction. Speaking on their demands, Chairman, Oyo TUC, Mr Bosun Olabiyi said it was baffling that over six months deductions were still being withheld by the state government. Deductions that are supposed to go to cooperatives, housing, union dues, taken from workers’ salaries, have been withheld. “Pensioners in Oyo State are really suffering. Unravelling Nigeria with injustice

Nigerians expected the President to quickly issue a statement disassociating the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from such a rascal and scoundrel. He presented the outright and disgraceful disobedience of a court order by the DSS as a case of two persons or institutions fighting. Injustice, disobedience to court orders, impunity and contempt for others will only lead Nigeria to underdevelopment, aggravated poverty and possible chaos. The leadership of the DSS should be told in very clear terms that Nigeria is not a jungle.

Iraq and Kuwait will work towards reaching a definitive agreement on demarcating their borders, including a contested maritime area of the Gulf, their foreign ministers said on Sunday. Baghdad insists that the delineation should provide it unhindered access to Gulf waters, a lifeline for its economy and oil exports. Flood may sack four million Nigerians, says IOM
The International Organisation for Migration has warned that 4.2 million Nigerians are at risk of displacement as the annual rainy season intensifies in 2023. This prediction is part of the IOM’s 2023 Nigeria Response Overview Disaster Preparedness Plan issued in response to the country’s growing threat of climate-induced disaster. The National Emergency Management Agency said the 2012 flood disaster, the worst in over 40 years, displaced nearly 2.3 million people, killed 363, and destroyed or damaged about 597,476 houses. In October 2022, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development revealed that floods displaced over 1.4 million people, killed over 603 persons and injured more than 2,400 persons. Seven hundred thousand of the displaced persons were in Bayelsa State, where floods submerged about 300 communities after torrential rains.

Russia does not reject peace talks with Ukraine — Putin
Russian President, Vladimir Putin has said he does not reject the idea of peace talks on Ukraine. Putin stated this after meeting African leaders in St Petersburg, he said an African and Chinese initiative could serve as a basis for finding peace. Putin told the late-night press conference on Saturday that there were no plans to intensify action on the Ukrainian front for now.
