Strikers Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams grabbed second-half goals as Nigeria powered to a deserved 2-0 victory against Algeria in Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final to set up a meeting with the hosts Morocco in the last four. Adams increased Nigeria’s lead 10 minutes later as Osimhen unselfishly fed him the ball and he took it round Zidane before placing it into an empty net. It was an impressive performance by Nigeria, who two months ago missed out on World Cup qualification, as they overwhelmed their opponents from the start at the Grand Stade de Marrakech. Nigeria looked more determined, quicker around the field and stronger in the challenges, denying their opponents a single scoring chance. Later on Saturday, Egypt play Côte d’Ivoire in Agadir to decide who will play Senegal in Wednesday’s first semi-final.

In a post on X, Sani challenged older Nigerians who criticise younger office holders on social media to channel their energy into practical political engagement. He also referenced recent surveys indicating that Nigerian youths are more active on social media than in mainstream politics, describing the trend as unhelpful for democratic development. Sani encouraged young Nigerians not to be discouraged by perceptions that politics is only for the wealthy, stressing that many of those currently in power did not have easy beginnings. “You need to hear the story of most of those you see in power today; it wasn’t an easy ride from the beginning,” Sani said. Several groups have also called on political parties to lower barriers to entry for young aspirants, including high nomination fees, which critics say discourage grassroots participation.

The laws are the Nigeria Tax Act, the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act, all operating under a single authority, the Nigeria Revenue Service. The NRS had, last December, said the new tax laws were designed to strengthen economic competitiveness, attract investments and improve long-term fiscal stability. However, recent developments indicate that some business owners are already raising the prices of their goods and services, attributing the hikes to the tax laws. The lawmakers went as far as taunting Fubara that he cannot win an election without the support of Wike in the state. The fuel supply arrangement between the refinery and 20 major petroleum marketers, under which the parties agreed to offtake 600 million litres of petrol monthly, has collapsed over pricing disagreements.
