Elected in exceptional circumstances, Bolsonaro caused exceptional damage in Brazil's economy and politics, society and military, and ecology. Before the election, Bolsonaro, who has never hidden his yearning for a new military junta, made multiple allegations of election fraud. Following the coup and Bolsonaro, Brazil's GDP is now where it was around 2007 or so. Brazil's military has a "parallel vote count," which some consider a risk to democracy. Furthermore, CySource, a controversial Israeli company hired by Brazil's military, will presumably "supervise" the election against "disinformation."

"Genchi genbutsu" (現地現物), which means "go and see for yourself," is one of these management principles; it is a managerial term associated with Toyota Motors company. The cross-disciplinary application of genchi genbutsu can be stretched further to any organization and even to institutions of learning. In other words, are we seeing the end of genchi genbutsu? It is important to note that technology should not dissolve the beneficial practice and outcome brought about by genchi genbutsu, specifically the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This will enable more people to look for ways to constantly improve production, which is primarily the purpose of genchi genbutsu."

In the town of Bayambang, the ‘onion capital’ of Pangasinan province, an invasion of armyworms is wreaking havoc on the onion crops. To combat the infestation, many farmers took out loans to pay the escalating costs of pesticides, racking up massive debts they have struggled to pay back. Scientists have warned that crop-damaging pests will only become more destructive as climate change brings hotter weather and more unseasonable rains. In places like the Philippines, now unsustainable farming practices leave rural communities unable to adapt, prompting calls to shift to more innovative and greener farming. In the Philippines, the armyworm was first reported in Pangasinan in 2016, when a major infestation ravaged over 1,000 hectares of land.
