Sri Lanka Army has halted administration of Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccines as the second dose to those who received a shot of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine effective from today (July 08), says General Shavendra Silva. The decision was taken as 1.4 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka by 3rd week of this month, the Army Commander stated further. Rolling out the first batch of Pfizer jabs Sri Lanka received on Monday (July 05) among people above the age of 55 years in Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) limits, who received the UK-developed vaccine as the first dose will receive, began yesterday. A consignment of 26,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines purchased by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday morning. Sri Lanka is expecting 26,000 more doses of Pfizer vaccine next week and another 60,000 and 90,000 more in the third and fourth weeks of July respectively.

The performance of the England cricket team has tremendously improved over the years, and the team has gained higher rankings in all formats of the game, Test No. In the 20/20 format the Sri Lankan team is at No.13, lower than even countries like the Netherlands and Ireland. Performance of our team in all six matches played, clearly reflects timelines and the effectiveness of the selection criterion. The other debatable point is the role played by our well-paid international coaches. Further, a manager was appointed to look after the team, and he played a highly appreciable role especially in maintaining discipline.

Sandra Jackson left this world, three years ago, and it was a huge loss to the entertainment scene, especially in Melbourne, Australia, where she and her family took up residence. The tributes that poured in for this gracious singer, from friends, fans and music lovers, were overwhelming. Sandra was an integral part of the band Reply 6 and was a big attraction wherever she performed. Sandra was instrumental in promoting and mentoring many budding musicians, Down Under, and from overseas. And it spawned the composition of the lyrics which was researched and fine-tuned by Esric and another fantastic music man, Rob Foenander.

In written submissions, Mr Sherborne said Mrs Vardy had a 'habitual practice' of providing private information to the press to promote her profile. The barrister later claimed that Mrs Vardy would receive a split of commission and revenue for stories given to The Sun through the Front Row Partnership, a PR agency where Mrs Vardy was a client. Mrs Vardy has denied any knowledge or authorisation of passing on private information. By Dinitha RathnayakeThe condition of the 14-year-old lion named Thor, who was infected with Covid-19 at the Dehiwala Zoological Garden, is clinically normal albeit medically unhealthy, and out of the danger zone, according to the Sri Lanka Veterinary Association (SLVA). According to SLVA Secretary Dr. G. Sugath Pemachandra, the lion’s white blood cell count is currently increasing while the platelet count keeps decreasing. “The condition is not critical, but this is a post-Covid-19 condition. Thor’s rectal tests revealed that the lion was infected with the B.1.1.7 Alpha variant of Covid-19, a few weeks back. However, as explained by Dr. Pemachandra, while humans can spread the virus to animals in certain situations, the reverse cannot take place.

That is why most doors of the world were opened to China.”He stated that this policy is very important for the progress of China, internationally and that it has now become clear that China will lead the rise of Asia in the century ahead. He added: “China is traveling along this Silk Road today with many lessors for the world. However, China accepted the world reality of the open economy in a way that was suitable to China.
