‘Overwhelming news’: Lockerbie arrest thrills families of victims

Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.), who graduated from Syracuse University’s law school and whose district includes Syracuse, lauded U.S. law enforcement and intelligence in a statement on Monday. “I hope this arrest will help the victims’ families heal,” Katko said. “I thought perhaps I was dreaming,” Stephanie Bernstein, who was married to Michael Bernstein when he was killed, said about receiving the news of the arrest. Crediting intelligence agencies, retired Gen. Jack Keane said Sunday on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that the development was likely a “huge relief” to the victims’ families. In 2001, former Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was convicted of bombing the flight, and he’s the only person to be convicted over the attack.
