Some 24 people were admitted to Samburu County Referral Hospital in Maralal town after consuming contaminated meat. Noting this was not the first case and that the consequences can be fatal, the doctor discouraged residents from eating meat that is not inspected. Atandi blamed lack of sufficient training among locals for the repeat cases of consumption of 'bad meat'. Bonface Atandi, a doctor at the hospital, said they developed symptoms of diarrhea, stomachache and vomiting. They shared the meat from the cow that had been sick for some time.
