He urges the National Electoral Commission to ensure impartiality, transparency and fairness, in order to guarantee the legitimacy and acceptance of the election outcome. In making this appeal, the Chairperson is mindful of the historical significance of these elections. These elections will be taking place against the backdrop of the country's recovery from the devastating consequences of the 2014-2015 Ebola Virus Disease epidemics. In so doing, the AU will continue to work closely with the larger international community, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations. The team will comprehensively assess the electoral process compliance with national laws and international standards for democratic elections.
