But in a sensational U-turn NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGCC) has finally accepted the link in a statement to the Scottish Hospitals Inquiry. Paige, now nine, contracted several infections but the health board previously refused to accept they were connected to the problems with the building. Her mother Kimberley Darroch has always maintained the bacteria must have been linked to the hospital’s water system, which caused a line feeding drugs into her body to become infected. ‘The families have now been vindicated but only after years of being denigrated and dismissed by the health board. Infections in 84 children were also investigated with a third considered probably linked to the hospital’s water and ventilation systems.
