• Govt urged to harness potentials of National Park ServicesTo address desertification challenges in the north, the National Agency for Great Green Wall, NAGGW, has planned to roll out intensity training programmes for 55 communities in 11 States affected with desertification. To actualise it, the Minister of Environment, Dr.Mohammed Abubakar is scheduled to flag-off the programme in Kano and Jigawa axis, and after which it would be grouped into states and spread throughout the year. Head of Press of the Agency, Pauline Sule, who stated this in Abuja, said the government is prepared to embark on livelihood programmes in states affected with desert encroachment. Meanwhile, the Emir of Borgu, Dr. Muhammad Dantoro, has reiterated the need for Federal Government to explore the potentials of the National Parks spread across the country to grow the economy. The Emir also said the natural resources and immense potentials of the national parks, if well harnessed, will give an impetus to government’s diversification agenda and also boost revenue generation.
