The Peninsula Manila announces that it is also scrapping its traditional balloon drop during the New Year revelries as it will opt for an environmentally-friendly celebration. "We at The Peninsula Manila have traditionally celebrated welcoming the New Year with a party, but oftentimes it’s all too easy for the celebrations to come with a big price tag for the planet. But, it is also possible for the New Year’s celebrations to be environmentally-friendly as well as enjoyable which is why we will no longer be having our traditional balloon drop as it is not in keeping with our Sustainable Luxury Vision 2020 philosophy," it says in a statement. It released its statement after Okada Manila drew flak over its planned dropping of 130,000 balloons to ring in the New Year.
