Chicago Bears send Pro Bowl DE Akiem Hicks to injured reserve

The Bears began life indefinitely without Akiem Hicks on Tuesday, sending the Pro Bowl defensive end to injured reserve with a dislocated left elbow and promoting undrafted rookie OL Alex Bars from the practice squad to the active roster. Matt Nagy would only say Monday that Hicks' injury was "pretty good" but has indicated that he's hopeful it isn't of the season-ending variety. The earliest Hicks could return from injured reserve would be in Week 15 against the Packers. The Bears could welcome back fellow starting DE Bilal Nichols this week for the first time since he broke his hand in Week 1 after he returned to practice Monday. Indeed, this is uncharted waters for the Bears defense.
