more-inThe North Delhi Municipal Corporation has bought four new wood chippers and shredder machines under the Swachh Bharat Mission to convert leaves and remains of trees into high quality manure. North Delhi mayor Preeti Agarwal said that apart from being environmentally friendly, making manure will be cost effective for the corporation which at present buys manure from outside. “This would help in decentralised disposal, recycling of fallen and pruned leaves and branches in municipal parks by composting the matter and later using it as manure,” she added. Ms. Agarwal also said that the staff of the horticulture department has undergone a 10-day-long training to shred the leaves. She said that two machines have been inducted in Rohini Zone and one each at Civil Lines and Karol Bagh.
