The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mansour Abdel-Ghani, announced Saturday that Egypt’s rationalization efforts saved 18,000 megawatt-hours in the first week, in addition to saving nearly 3.5 million cubic meters of fuel. This comes as ministry implements a comprehensive plan to rationalize electricity consumption in cooperation with various stakeholders. Abdel-Ghani indicated that these savings reflect the success of the conservation measures implemented recently, which included regulating lighting in shops and public buildings and reducing unnecessary consumption. Citizens are the key element in the success of this system, he said, as they are essential in reducing consumption and achieving energy efficiency. March is a crucial period for monitoring performance in light of the implementation of these new consumption measures, he added.
