Ex-firemen gets 34 months for illegal assembly

A former firefighter was handed 34-month jail terms today at the District Court over an anti-government protest where he was found to have carried four petrol bombs. Fong Chi-hung, 34, pleaded guilty to five charges at the District Court in relation to a protest in Mong Kok on November 10, 2019. District Judge Timothy Casewell said the case is serious as Fong was found to have carried the petrol bombs, which would escalate violence and disrupt social order. Fong had also missed the birth of his child while being detained for nearly 14 months since his arrest. Another defendant in the case, Chiu Ho-chun, 26, was given 28 months behind bars for illegal assembly and possessing two Molotov cocktails.
