THE public has been reminded not to carry out open burning, especially during hot and dry weather, as small fires can trigger infernos. Selangor public health and environment committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said such irresponsible acts not only affected the environment, but also jeopardised public health and safety. “The public is also encouraged to immediately report any open burning activities or fire incidents to the authorities so that prompt action can be taken. Regarding a hillside fire last month in Puncak Jalil, Seri Kembangan, which razed about 15ha of forest, Jamaliah said firefighters from several fire stations, including Seri Kembangan, Cyberjaya, Puchong, Jalan Penchala and Subang Jaya, responded to the incident. “It was also reported that the affected area was located outside the permanent forest reserve,” said Jamaliah.
