Google and Alphabet Inc. Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai on Wednesday unveiled “India-America Connect Initiative”, outlining plans to deploy new subsea cable routes aimed at strengthening artificial intelligence (AI) connectivity between the two countries and multiple locations across the Southern Hemisphere. Announcing the initiative, Pichai said that the project builds on the company’s previously announced investments in India’s AI infrastructure. This hub will house 1 gigawatt scale compute and a new international subsea cable gateway. Building on this, today we are announcing the India-America connect initiative, which will deliver new subsea cable routes to increase AI connectivity between the US, India and multiple locations across the Southern Hemisphere,” Pichai said. On the research front, the company launched a $30 million AI for Science Impact Challenge to back global researchers applying AI to fields such as quantum computing and climate modelling.
