HBO Chief Richard Plepler Bows Out

Longtime HBO Chief Richard Plepler has stepped down as head of the premium television network, Forbes has learned. The son of a trial lawyer, he arrived at HBO in 1992, after a stint working in the office of former U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd of Connecticut. A source inside the company said Plepler felt that the autonomy of the job wasn't there anymore, and decided it was time to exit. Plepler was rumored to have chafed under the leadership of WarnerMedia's new chief, John Stankey, an industry newcomer who spent his three-decade-long career at AT&T. However, in his message to the staff, Plepler made a gracious exit after 28 years.
