However, the move towards renewable energy also relies on an electricity grid that can safely and reliably deliver that power to homes and businesses across the country. That task is managed by EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity transmission system, which is also responsible for planning for the nation’s electricity future. Over the next five years, the organisation will develop and deliver 381 transmission infrastructure projects nationwide, in partnership with ESB Networks. Under PR6, major steps will also be taken towards building the offshore transmission grid. Currently in its next stage, EirGrid has prioritised further engagement with the public, fisheries and landowners to ensure that all stakeholders are part of the journey to delivering grid infrastructure.
