Either way, Johnny Sexton isn’t keen to dwell on research published yesterday that shows just one season of professional rugby can cause a decline in cognitive function. “If a study concludes that it needs more investigation I wouldn’t pay that much heed to it,” says Sexton. “I’ve had cognitive tests from the age of 18, 19, 20, I did cognitive tests this week, before we started the season, and I don’t think there’s any decline in my results. Sexton wasn’t to know then that Leinster wouldn’t make it past that game. I was full of admiration, especially for the Irish guys, how outstanding they were through all the games,” adds Sexton.
