Julapun pledges aid for slain crew's kin

Julapun pledges aid for slain crew's kinLabour Minister Julapun Amornvivat expresses his deepest condolences to the families of three Thai crew members of the MV Mayuree Naree who lost their lives in an attack on the vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. He said relevant agencies had been instructed to accelerate procedures under the Maritime Labour Act 2015 so that benefits could be disbursed to them as quickly as possible. The three deceased were previously insured under Section 33 of the Social Security Act, and their accumulated old-age contributions remain payable. The Social Security Office has been instructed to urgently contact the families to process payments. Mr Julapun noted that seafarers fall under the Maritime Labour Act, which provides a distinct set of protections that differ in some respects from those under the general social security system.
