Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Saturday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour the late Chipko movement leader Sunderlal Bahuguna with the Bharat Ratna. In a letter, Kejriwal highlighted Bahuguna’s journey from fighting for India’s independence in his younger days to starting the Chipko movement in the 1970s. “We the people of India are fortunate to have a personality like Sunderlal Bahuguna born in our country to guide us. In a commemoration ceremony on July 15, the Chief Minister had said: “I want to appeal to the central government and PM Modi that Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna. If such a towering personality is honoured with the Bharat Ratna, it will be an honour for the award itself.
